I thought about it and I realized there might be some disadvantages when it comes to skipping Calc BC by taking the BC AP test after taking the AB class.

One of which is that by taking Multivariable Calc my senior year, I'll only be taking 5 APs + the math instead of 6 AP's (including AP Calc BC). This would mean a lower GPA.

Should I just neglect this because taking Multivariable Calc in high school is better than AP math?

I was kind of hoping to be Salutatorian, but I don't think it'll be possible with only 5 AP's senior year...

i took multivariable and linear algebra as a junior, and from my experience, higher math is worth taking if only because it's really interesting (especially abstract algebra).

and don't take calc BC after calc AB. BC covers all the AB topics, but adds a few more integration tricks and basic series manipulation, topics you can study on your own time. That basically means that you'll be bored.

don't worry about being salutatorian or not. by the time all is set in stone, you'll be into college anyway

i'm not in college yet. reading my post again, my rhetoric made me sound as though i was in college. sorry :P "when i was a junior" ended a few weeks ago.

i need to stop posting on cc so early in the morning (yes 8:14 AM is early for me)

i never took an ap math test (i took the ab and bc classes in school because i had no choice) - instead i took calc 2, 3, and diff eq at a local univ. i got bs in school because it was soooo boring, and i have a 4.0 in my dual enrollment college level math classes, along with quite a few 100s on tests. so just a warning when the class doesnt count for anything at least for me i stopped studying. then again senioritis. i got a 50-something on one test last quarter rotf. then i figured i needed at least a c so i got a 95 on the next test lol. its all a matter of discipline, which i have none of with regard to boring hs math. so dont take a boring class take an interesting one.

Kind of going along the same lines as the AP Math...

My school doesn't off BC, so I'm going to the University to take the second semester of it my senior year. Should I take the AP test in May? I'd get a 4 or 5 for sure. Advantages/Disadvantages? Is it necessary?

I'd rather take AP calc because all of my friends are taking it. It's better to have fun now, especially when you have 4 years in college left to go anyhow.

thats why i took college classes and ap calc in hs even though i already had credit for it. it was kind of boring (the material) but i loved the ppl in the class, so it was worth it for me at least. it made for a nice sr year.

OP: it depends what you want. If you want to prepare yourself for college better, even if you'd retake the material albeit a much more rigorous version, take MV/LA. Rank really doesn't matter; you shouldn't be rejected from any school solely because you're ranked 2 or 3 instead of 1. I'm actually in a similar situation, but that's another story for another time.
Unlike other people who posted here, I'd be just bored silly in AP calc BC after taking AB even if I had friends in my class. BC only covers literally a couple more chapters than BC. That's why I ended up studying the extra bit myself.
