I really love Oberlin and they have an academic program that I like, along with a lot of really positive social aspects. I'm just afraid that if I go to a school that doesn't have an urban setting, I'll be disappointed by the social scene and the music scene, because I had originally wanted to be in a city.

Does anybody know if being in a less urban setting means you have to sacrifice all of that sort of music/city culture/feel?

I'm not an Oberlin student, but I have several friends who go there, and from what I hear, music is not lacking in any respect. There are "local, student indie bands" on campus, as well as conservatory students, so that alone should provide enough music for you.

If you're referring to the hip/indie/city modern rock type stuff though, then it may be more difficult. Oberlin tries very hard to bring events to campus though. Idk if you've heard of Of Montreal (a popular indie rock band), but they apparently came to campus last fall.

City/artsy/indie culture runs rampant at Oberlin, I believe.

I thought similarly before I came here. Despite that whole rural-ohio deal, there's always too much activity, not too little, and that stuff is always accessable. And affordable. Concerts cost 5 bucks. Max. People are friendly and social, so when you go out, you can make friends.
If you want a club scene.... nope. Not so much of that.
If you want a party every night of the week... sometimes. But most weeknights, we work, or take excos.
