College of Agriculture and Life Sciences vs. College of Arts and Sciences?

I want to major in biology, but both schools have the biological sciences majors... In what ways do the biological sciences programs at the two schools differ?

I'm also somewhat interested in mathematics (although I'm more interested in biology). Would this impact my decision when choosing a college?

Also, I think on the Cornell site, it says that even if I apply for the same major to two schools, I still have to write an essay... I've heard that since colleges will only see the one pertaining to their school, so I'm looking to reuse the same essay -- can someone verify this?

The biology program at CALS and CAS is the same so they encourage you to apply to the college that better suits your interest. I also was thinking about doing that you’re doing but Cornell really doesn’t like you applying to two college… I would just apply to one.

CAS is a little more difficult to get into but I think it has the better math program… I think…

^ agreed, think about which school suits you best…for example, CAS has a foreign language requirement, while CALS does not. etc etc…

^why don’t they like you applying to an alternate? I was thinking it would improve my chances if I applied to both :(

I applied to both and will be screaming with joy if either accepted me. Also, the site says both colleges has the right to read BOTH your essays, so make sure your essays aren’t clones of each other.

Applying to an alternate is okay if you’re consistent (ex. applying as a Bio major to both CAS and CALS).
