I will be applying to Cornell during the class of 2017-18 school year. The Undergraduate requirements for the College of Arts and Science, is to take 3 foreign language classes on the high-school level. I will be graduating this year as a junior, and I decided to only take 2 years of foreign language (Spanish) I’m not interested in taking a 3rd year of Spanish. Could I substitute that with the SAT 2 Spanish tests or CLEP Test? Would that be considered transfer credit?
No. You need at least 3 years of one foreign language as I understand. Call the department to clarify though.
Well, let’s start with the easy one first. No, it would not be considered transfer credit.
Cornell is very clear on their requirements:

So while 3 years will not mean an automatic rejection, you will need to explain why, and “I’m not interested” will not cut it.
Exactly what skieurope said. And admission is competitive so why would you put yourself at such a disadvantage? You could consider a college summer school language class. Also if you really don’t want to take more foreign language, know that CAS requires more foreign language in addition to your 3 yrs from high school.
Thanks @skieurope … The reason I’m unable to take the 3rd year of spanish, is because I’m graduating a year early for personal reasons, and taking a third year of spanish would interfere with my graduation requirements, therefore, prohibiting me from graduating. I doubt that my school will allow me to add the third year of spanish, due to the strict 8 credit an academic school year rule, but and @Renomamma … I was actually thinking about taking some classes this upcoming semester…but I’ll be contacting the Cornell Admissions office about the language requirements and for further assistance.
Yes, that’s definitely a better reason than “I don’t feel like it.” The only people qualified to give you advice is Cornell’s admissions staff, so give them a call.
