I am a junior and UMN-TC is the school I am most likely going to. I believe that I am a strong candidate for the College of Biological Sciences, and would be attending college as a pre-med student (biology major, probably). I know that you are able to double major in majors cross-college at the U, but I don’t know if my specific situation would work. I would really like to double major in philosophy and biology and have my heart set on doing bio at the CBS. Would the constraints of the biology program at CBS limit me too much to be able to major in philosophy as well? How about a minor in philosophy?
My question is; why would you double major if you plan on going pre-med?
A philosophy major is about as Humanities-oriented as you can get. It’s rigorous too. OP might have his/her hands full (to put it mildly) but, assuming success, will learn to write well, among other things. Med Schools value a liberal arts education so this isn’t a bad idea at all (assuming the workload is doable). BTW, a minor is also possible.
If you get accepted into CBS, maybe you could ask your question at orientation (since you will be with other CBS students). OR you could ask when you attend the additional 4 day CBS freshman student “cabin camping” trip in July to Itasca.
