I am looking to transfer into the College of Business from DGS. I have a cumulative GPA of 3.53/4.0 and a business core GPA of 3.1675/4.0 (ECON 102, ECON 103, MATH 221, MATH 231). What do you think my chances are of getting in? Thanks!

So your classes are pretty standard. It would of helped if you got a jump on econ 202/203 and accounting, but a lot of transfers are applying with the same classes completed. Honestly, it is going to come down to your EC experience. Hopefully you were on executive board in a frat or well known business organization. I know people that tried transferring with a near 4.0 and were declined because they didn’t do anything outside of the classroom.

Your gpa and course rigor are pretty mediocre, but if you were able to distinguish yourself from the other applicants I’d say you have a shot.

Hi, micromegas. Thanks for your input!

I am trying to transfer into marketing. I was the spring pledge class president for my fraternity and I have a summer internship this summer. What would you say my chances are with that information given?

That definitely helps. I think you have a good shot, but you are not a shoo-in by any means.

Hello! I also applied to transfer to business, but I applied to finance. What do my chances look like? Starting fall 2012 I was an exec board member for one of my RSO’s and I was on 2 committees in another RSO. My cumulative GPA is a 3.70/4.0 and I’m not quite sure what my business core GPA is, I just know that it is above a 3.1. Any feedback would be great, thanks in advance!

Also, I’m confused about when we find out. Are decisions staggered or when they say by 5 pm on June 14th do they mean on June 14th or anytime before then? Thanks!

That’s a great question, antsypants. I was thinking the same thing, but I think at 5pm on June 14th they will send all the applicants decisions. The freshman applicants are like that and I think College of Business will do the same.

It sounds like they would do that, but then again they are looking at a lot less applicants than they would for the pool of incoming freshman. I’m getting very anxious about the decisions, but then again based on the number of applicants who were accepted in previous years an average of 50% of applicants get in each year, which is one in 2 people. I’m not sure how this should make me feel.

True that. I have been waiting a long time for this moment too. I wish we had more statistics from past years because I don’t know what percent of applicants who applied are under/below my GPA compared to how many got accepted.

There’s a percentage thing on the website that leads to the application that shows a range of GPAs and the percentage of applicants who were accepted with that range. I would link you but I’m responding via phone right now. More stats would definitely be more helpful, it would put my mind at ease.

Yup, I have seen those stats, but I don’t know what the stats are for those denied if that makes sense. Anyways, I agree with you. I wish there was something that could ease my stress.

Yeah that would be convenient but I feel like it still doesn’t mean anything because of the holistic review process, now that I think about it. They can’t quantify the average value/number of ECs or something. That would be awesome if it was possible, though.

Yup. I guess we will just have to keep this weight on our shoulders and see what happens on June 14th.

Hey, guys. I also applied to transfer to the CoB. I had a 3.62 GPA and was involved with a few RSOs including leadership experience in high school and before that. Not sure about my chances. Feel like it can go either way and it’s been driving me insane. Oh well…less than a week until we get our decisions. Good luck!

Heartsocks, what major did you apply to?

I applied to Business Administration (General) AKA Management (new). And you?

I applied to finance.

Did either of you receive an e-mail entitled “Important message from your College Office” about an “unread or unacknowledged letter from the College of Business”? I thought decisions wouldn’t be out until tomorrow but maybe it has come early? I’m too afraid to open the link…

Yay! I got into the College of Business! Thanks for the heads up, heartsocks.

Oh, wow. It’s here already…You’re welcome. I still haven’t checked. I can’t.
