College of Charleston

what do you guys know about this school?

My D was accepted early action, and is from the Boston area. It has become increasiingly popular among northerners looking to get out of the cold and into a decent school with the whole southern charm thing going on. We have not visited yet, but daughter's GC raves about it as he plays golf in the Charleston area several times a year. Apparently, it is not that highly esteemed among people in South Carolina who have that in-state stinks mentality that some of us suffer from when thinking about our own in-state schools. It is right near the ocean, which is a huge draw, and right in the very cool city of Charleston as well, so geographically it seems to have the best of both worlds. Academically, it is marginally strong. Definitely better than most state schools, IMO. With the exception of the Stanfords and Chapel HIlls, of course.

i have a friend that goes to CofC and she loves it...she loves Charleston as the weather is amazing (shes from DC area), loves the atmosphere, ect...she says that the campus is beautiful, and the campus and the town are VERY connected and flow into each other nicely...as far as academics go, its a good liberal arts school, but not top notch, but definently respectable

thanks guys!!
