College of Communication question

Hey,

I've just been admitted to UT as a spring transfer. I know that I will need to apply as an internal transfer to the College of Communication if I want to add Radio-TV-Film as a major.
My question is, what are my chances of being accepted? Are there any statistics available?

Not that I could find. You might try asking the department as they are the only one who would keep records like that.

Have you looked at this?
RTF Undergraduate Program

Yeah I have, but they're being really diplomatic in there, no actualy numbers, just minimun requirements...

I emailed one of the admission officials, hopefully they're gonna give me an answer....

UT Admissions office does not publish any sort of transfer statistics and supposedly they don't keep them either. Your specific question should be directed to the RTF office who (likely) keep records like that, but I'm not so sure that they'll give them to you.

What year are you?

I'm gonna be a junior this spring.

I didn't even bother with the admissions office, I figured they wouldn't know. But it seems strange that the Communication Dept. wouldn't tell me, or wouldn't have that information, because I looked online and McCombs, for example, has those statistics available on its website.

Is it also true that if I want to double major I'm gonna need to take 144 credits instead of 120?

Straight from the horses mouth: College of Communication - Simultaneous Majors

In short: Yes...

What is the other major you are pursuing?

I'm also majoring in Economics

Economics is a good department. I don't think that there should be much trouble meeting the 144 hour requirement since there shouldn't be too much overlap between your courses of study. I would be much more worried about meeting the college requirements for credit earned at UT since you are a late (>beginning junior) transfer student. If you find that you are shy of 144 hours, you can always take some more upper division courses in RTF or electives elsewhere.

I have mixed feeling about RTF. I've known several people who are currently on that track or have done that track in Austin. You don't really get too much experience the first few couple of years. Instead you learn about the history of film and take some other general courses. I am not sure it is wise choose to pursue RTF as a transfer student simply because of all of the lower division requirements which are not hands on. I personally would wait until graduate school, but I suppose the choice depends on what you aspect of RTF you are interested in and your career choice.

Good luck!

I think I've completed all of the equivalent RTF lower division courses at my current school, and I'm hoping those would transfer and fulfill those requirements. You are right, though, if that doesn't happen I don't see myself transferring, I would rather graduate earlier, intern in LA or NY during next summer and then move to either one after graduation.

Just don't get horrible grades, and you should be fine. It's not that hard to transfer into Com. Express a sincere interest. Find a prof who will recommend you.
