College of Computer and Information Sciences help?

Hey Guys

So Im a senior in hs, and I am planning to apply to NEU early action for CCIS and I have a few general questions.
How competitive is CCIS for admission? What is the general consensus about their programs (I know co op is a huge deal)? Is there a specific profile of admissions for this college anywhere too?

ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED

I’m applying to CCIS also! I’m pretty sure Northeastern doesn’t publish stats per college though. From what I have heard, CCIS is pretty competitive, more so than the other colleges, but I’m not sure to what extent.

I am fairly confident that it exists because I saw charts of stats by major in a powerpoint used by a professor a few weeks back. I’d email admissions and ask them to send it your way if possible -

And CCIS seems like one of our strongest colleges (even though I know that Behavioral Neuroscience and Biochemistry are the two highest GPA/HS SAT score-wise). The computer science organizations have already sponsored talks about using Linux command line and they had some engineers from Goldman Sachs talk about the computer side of stock markets recently and I know some really strong students who have switched over to computer science from various other majors.

Good luck with your applications! Feel free to PM me any questions

Thanks for the reply!

Ive been weighing CCIS and the Engineering school for a while now, and I also wondering if it would be reccomended to apply undeclared so I could maybe choose after decisions? Also I was wondering it it would help with my admission chances to apply undecided.

Thanks

I don’t think the school releases any official stats, but Julian has the right idea overall. CS is one of the better schools.

As far as the program itself, I love it. I am a tutor for the first CS class, and the class does an amazing job of teaching the design and logic principles of CS instead of teaching you how to code in a single language. I could go into much more detail if needed.

Here is an essay written by the creator of the program: http://www.ccs.neu.edu/home/matthias/Thoughts/Growing_a_Programmer.html

I had no idea that BNS was one of the highest stats majors. Now I feel special.

I’m near 100% sure that admissions won’t give you that stats breakdown. They don’t want people to apply to certain majors just to increase their chances of getting in. It’s also fairly easy to change majors, so I wouldn’t get too stressed out about what you pick to start. Plenty of people even switch the summer before they start.
