Hi everyone,
I'm extremely interested in the college of creative studies at ucsb, can anyone give me an idea of how difficult the admissions are? I'd be doing it in CS.

some stats:
4.13 W / 3.5 UW (terribly low)
34 ACT
ap english - 5
ap cs - 4 (felt sick that day, probably shouldn't have taken it and done makeup)
did research at mit summer of sophomore -> junior year
competed in siemens competition in cs
member of school science olympiad team. won 2nd place individual medal at nationals.

Are my stats good enough that it would just come down to the letter of intent / demonstration of talent (probably going to submit siemens paper)?

As you’re undoubtedly already aware, CCS does not provide admissions data, so anything that can be said will be qualitative. You are above the avg admissions profile for UCSB (data online), so that is good.

I don’t think that you are out of the range for CCS CS students: although people don’t really discuss HS GPA, I seem to recall SAT scores in the 2000-2300 range, which contains your result. In addition, many that I know were admitted to Berkeley, but not Caltech/MIT (as people admitted to either likely went there instead), so I would guess that it is somewhat easier to gain admission to CCS CS than UC Berkeley EECS, partially because the group would be more self-selecting. Remember than you need two letters of recommendation. If you are admitted, I strongly recommend it: the CCS CS majors I know seem to greatly enjoy the program, which is rigorous, and its many freedoms.

There really aren’t any good answers to your question, but do write a good letter of intent. The work in evidence of talent is truly optional for CS (not false optional), so I cannot say how it will affect your application. Though, in your case, I can only envision it having a positive impact.
