College of Engineering-Admissions

Hey!
Im new to this board!

Okay, My problem is that Im an UG student at MSU. I had a GPA of 3.0 in my first semester but due to some personal problems I ended up with a GPA of 1.5 in my second semester. I just got done with my freshmen year. I want to Major in Computer Engineering but the GPA requirement for that major is 2.9. Even if I get a 3.5 in my next two semesters, I will eventually end up with an average of 2.8 which is less than the required GPA i.e 2.9.
So, I just want to ask that can I enter college of engineering with something a little less than the required GPA.??...or I cannot enter the COE at all?..

Thanks!

Generally speaking, if there is a required gpa and you don’t reach it, you are not admitted, that’s the definition of a requirement. That said, call your college and ask them directly, explain about the extenuating circumstances and see if you can retake some classes to raise your gpa. This is better than asking people on a discussion board, I’m not even sure if you’re attending Michigan State, or Montana State or…

I tried getting in touch with some of the advisers but oddly my adviser is on a 2-week break! I have emailed them 3 times and no reply so, was eager to know.! I just wanted to know, If I send them an application with my reason for that “Bad Semester”, will I be accepted? coz on there admission page they say
“Students attaining the required GPAs are guaranteed admission. In certain majors, additional students may be considered for admission. on a space available basis.” Does this mean that my situation will be considered?
I go to Michigan State.

Do you see the critical difference between these two sentences?

With the information that you’ve now added, yes it looks like they will at least consider you. However, whether or not you will be accepted cannot be answered by anyone other than the COE at Michigan State whenever they get around to it. Sorry, I understand your frustration, but no one here can give you a definitive answer because it varies from year to year (“on a space available basis”).

Well, I’ll wait for them to mail me back then!
Thanks for the help!!
