How difficult is it to get into the college of engineering at Syracuse? What is average SAT/GPA? Acceptance rate?
I went to the fall reception and they said you need a SAT math score of 600+ and a 27 on the ACT math for engineering. The averages i found online are a 1770 SAT, 58% acceptance rate for the engineering school and a 3.6 gpa but thats for the school overall.

That is not true. The math section of the SAT is only one indicator for how you will do in the 3 semesters of calculus required (Differential Equations is often separated from general calculus). Your score on the AP us a better indicator, as well as your performance on smith placement tests given by most schools prior to the start of the first semester.
best of luck , then. engineering has an average dropout rate of 50%. that’s just the average it’s not a major that you decide on at a high school seminar put on by colleges to recruit underrepresented types. majors that are based on facts, rather than, “how you feel or were treated” papers are very, very difficult and only get harder. if you are deciding between fashion merchandising or chem engineering you won’t succeed. you’ll either drop out of school or transfer to the old standbys sociopathlogy or psychopology.

I’m a current EE major in ECS at Syracuse. Honestly, I think I got in because of my underrepresented status and number of math classes I took, (which included taking Pre-Cal, College Algebra, and Applied Calc at some community college). However, I was really poor in other areas, especially in SAT Reading section. My GPA was in the low 3’s.
What I noticed among my peers, who are freshmen is that they had good grades to get in to this school but they are not necessarily too smart, although there are a couple. However, a lot of them, especially in EE, are either switching major or transferring to another school. Sometimes, students don’t come to lectures. But they still manage to score descent on exams (ex. our 1st CHE exam average was 76%, and class size is about 250+ students).
Sorry I went off topic, just wanted you to realize who your future peers are. The average GPA or SAT is not really a concern, but it helps if you emphasize areas in your Math or SAT MAT section, and the rest of the STEM areas.
Actually, @mommybaby I am a mechanical engineer with a degree from a more competitive school than Syracuse, so your advice and sarcasm are not required. My S is applying to Syracuse for engineering and has a math score well above 600. I was just countering your opinion that anyone with only a 600 will not survive engineering and that is patently untrue. Depending on what type of engineering, and how one’s mind works to problem solve, one can have the necessary skills and only score a 600 in math. I have seen it done many times. Don’t fall getting off that high horse of yours…
