College of Human Ecology vs. College of Arts and Sciences

Hi! I am an intended premed, interested in Cornell's College of Human Ecology and Cornell's Art and Sciences. I have heard rumours floating around that Human Ecology is not at par with Cornell's College of Arts and Sciences. Is it true that Human Ecology is lower than Arts and Sciences in terms of rank? Which one is better for premed? Have students from Human Ecology gone on to the top medical schools?

Sorry for all the questions, but I was quite confused with the CHE and CAS.

Thanks for any input! :)

The Human Biology, Health, and Society major is offered in College of HumEc. It seems to be a major that’s kind of geared towards the premed majors. It’s primarily a bio major but with a lot of applied courses that can be applied to health care, sociology, and public administration. I feel like A&S Bio major is more for people who want to study biology and HBHS is more for those who would like to take more applied courses so that they can use their bio knowledge in other areas and not necessarily in research.

There’s a lot of premeds in Cornell A&S who are not bio majors. This causes the intro bio courses to be harder than it is (due to tougher curve and competition).

Also, you can apply to both A&S and Human Ecology and I think it might be true that it is easier to get into humec than A&S as transferring from A&S to HumEc is easier than the other way around. I think there’s a link on the Cornell site that has all the profiles (EC, MCAT scores, GPA, etc) of med school applicants.

The charts give some general info on acceptances…I’ll try to find the link that gives more detailed info
What year are you (college)?

Thank you for the information! Though I am not yet in college, I do have a friend who was accepted into Cornell University. My friend, who is an intended premed, was accepted into Human Ecology and was concerned that because Human Ecology was land grant school, it would be looked down upon by medical schools. Is this true? Also, is it possible to switch majors? For instance, my friend wants to study biology, but this is not available in the College of Human Ecology… Thank you again!
