College of Letters and Sciences petition for CS major

I am going to be a high school senior this Fall and want to major in CS at Berkeley. Because I am also interested in biology, and because the Letters and Sciences route to CS is supposedly less competitive(as opposed to applying directly for EECS), applying to the college of L&S seems more appealing to me. I’m just confused about the specifics of applying with the intention of petitioning for a CS major. Is it possible to directly apply as a L&S CS major or do you have to wait and complete all the lower division CS course requirements first? And while you are completing these requirements, are you simply undeclared? If it is even possible, should I be applying undeclared specifically to the College of L&S?

I apologize for my obvious and complete lack of knowledge of this process and thank you for your help!

All frosh admitted to L&S enter as undeclared students. The L&S CS major requires completing the prerequisites with a 3.3 GPA (currently) in order to declare the major.

@ucbalumnus are there any other considerations aside from GPA that determine whether or not you get into the CS major?

thank you very much!
