Hi–Minnesota is one of my son’s top choices right now. We are still waiting to hear about financial aid/scholarships. He got an invitation to the College of Liberal Arts Deans Showcase. I am trying to decide if it is worth it to attend. We live in Chicago and would have to fly. We have visited twice before, so we have done the tour and the liberal arts talk. Just trying to decide if it would be worth the flight or have more information than we have already learned. He is in a play, so we cannot drive like we did before.
Bump
I’d call and ask what the showcase offers to accepted students that your previous visits did not. Not sure if your son will be in Honors but if so they may separate out the honors kids for a special presentation (or perhaps there’s a separate, special event just for honors kids?). That might be helpful if you haven’t seen one already. You don’t need another campus tour and we have found that they do tend to run these presentations very similarly one to another. The Dean’s Showcase might end with a reception with the Dean or associate Dean(s) or something special like that. Anyway, if you don’t have the details of the day or the breakout sessions then call and ask them.
We went to this event yesterday. It was a good session but I would not recommend paying for flights to attend. The Dean presented his view of the college (he was very impressive), there was a departmental interaction session, a classroom type presentation, a staff round table and finally reception with staff and students.
