College of Natural Science at the University of Texas at Austin

Hi! I would like to know what are my chances of getting accepted to CNS at UT. Here are my stats:

GPA: 3.92/4.00
Rank: 3/448
SAT: 1120
ACT: 26

Associate of Science in Computer Science by May 2017
Total hours completed: 64
(I’m taking dual enrollment classes)

Academic Activities:

Community Service:
Total hours complete: 105

This is just a shortened of my expanded resume I uploaded. I know I don’t have a lot of community hours and I shouldn’t be making excuses, but I had a lot of studying and household responsibilities to be taken care of. My SAT and ACT are something I’m not proud of since they seem to be below average. Other than that, any feedback would be great!

My intended major is computer science

As you probably know, UT’s computer science is one of its most competitive and elusive majors. I too applied for computer science (along with Turing Scholar) and was accepted with a 1570 SAT (out of 1600).

Honestly, unless you have some sort of hook (URM, first gen, etc), there isn’t much of a chance of getting into one of UT’s most selective majors with those scores. Hope you can prove me wrong

@Aristos when were you admitted? What was your class rank? In-state or OOS?

@TexasMom2017 I was admitted today I believe (12/16), but perhaps earlier - I never checked MyStatus since my application in October. I’m in-state and school does not rank, but my counselor said I was top 10% and just missed top 7% (small private school with 100 kids).

Here’s what I see: Congratulations, Aristos! You are admitted to The University of Texas at Austin.
Welcome to the Class of 2021, and to the Computer Science, Entry-Level major in the College of Natural Sciences, where you may begin your studies effective Fall 2017

Also, I applied with priority deadline as well as to Turing Scholar and Dean Scholar, so that may have expedited my admission process.

Congrats, @Aristos! That’s great news!

I just wanted to be clear on this.
I applied to the CS major.
I sent my subject test scores and SAT scores together
I got 1560 SAT (800M) but really really horrible subject test scores (740 M2 and 690 P). I hope they won’t consider the subject test scores ???

@ad93107 I’m fairly certain UT general admissions don’t consider SAT subject tests, but I believe honors programs do.

Oh Okay…will January SAT subject test scores reach in time to be considered for te honors program ???

@ad93107 Since the deadline is 12/1/2016, I don’t think so. However, this deadline is for Dean’s Scholar; Turing Scholar’s page is down, so perhaps contact them and double check.

oh okay thanks.
@Aristos are you a current student ?

No, I got in for the Fall of 2017 (currently a high school senior)

@Aristos - why did you send your subject tests if they were low? They aren’t required at UT.

I came to UT this morning, and an admission officer showed me data about 2016 transfer. Average GPA of admitted applicants who seek for admission into College of Natural Sciences is 3.75. It is higher than most people thought, and it is just less than that of Business and Engineering.

@momoftres Wrong person perhaps? I had 800 M2 and 790 BioM. Personally I did because I applied to honors, so every little thing helps (I hope).

Yes, sorry, @Aristos . That comment should have been for @ad93107 . I put the wrong tag!!

Your scores are great. Hope that will help with the honors college!

@momoftres I wasn’t expecting them to be that low…i kind of got carried away because i did well in all the other tests ( 1560 SAT 117 TOEFL) so i didn’t work as hard as i should have…I also used one of the four free score reports…i got 740 M2 and 700 Physics
