College of William and Mary Class of 2019 RD Applicants Discussion

Hello everyone! I do not believe this thread has been created yet (specifically for RD applicants), so I decided to create it. It’s March and we are getting close to hearing back from admissions. W&M has released decisions on March 26th for the past two years, so maybe we will have our decisions in three weeks! Good luck to all!

They send out an email right? I’m so nervous I feel like my SAT scores aren’t good enough

I was deferred during ED. Any other deferred students here?

They send out an email first, and then (if you were accepted), they send an acceptance letter in the mail.

What day does everyone believe decisions will be released? I’m thinking the 26th because that’s what it’s been for the past two years.

I’ve seen various posts on this and they all say the 26th. I stay tuned to the W&M blog to keep up to date.

March 26th would be consistent with past years. And so far, W&M’s “admit it” blogposts seem to be following past patterns – the post on the cypher postcards, for example was posted January 26th this year and January 27th last year. So despite all of the challenging weather, it seems as though they’re largely on track.

That said, please remember that all that the W&M admissions folks have said is that decisions will be out by April 1st. They’ve had a clear pattern in the past of not setting a date in advance, and of posting on their blog as soon as the decisions have been released. Asking them “are you there yet” 20 times will not speed their process!!

I have a question and need some advice. I was deferred during ED process. We were instructed to send updates to our application to help in the decision process. I’ve have sent in a few updates.

Here is my question: I do competitive gymnastics and plan to continue my sport in college. Does the admission office care about my gymnastics accomplishments this season? I know it seems strange but I want to set myself apart as much as possible.

Are you planning on competing gymnastics on the WM team? Maybe your gym accomplishments would be better sent to the gymnastics coach rather than admissions?

@ pghpaa - The coach and I do communicate and I let him know my accomplishments after each meet I have. I meet the coach and spent some time with him during the summer after my admission interview and campus tour.

After the interview, the tour and meeting with the coach, this became my number one choice. I’ve gotten in to all the other schools I’ve applied to but this is the ONE.

@KLBAER- gotcha! Just thought maybe the coach could put in a good word for you with the admissions committee if you were competing. I’m assuming you would be a walk on then if you get in?

@pghpaa - He wrote a letter of recommendation for me when I applied early decision. I’m assuming he would take me as a walk on.

I am not sure how much weight that letter had (or has) with the Admissions Committee

@KLBAER maybe he would contact them again on your behalf. No harm in asking him since it sounds like you communicate with him on a regular basis. Maybe you need to find out if he will actually take you as a walk on? That might influence your decision one way or the other. Good Luck!

My DS was also deferred and he sent in his letter of continued interest, new awards, and a new SAT score.

It’s probably too late to sent anything else. According to the W&M blog, they have already reviewed the deferred candidates.

The wait is making me crazy! I keep having doubts about my essays. Fingers crossed!

Agreed! I just want to see my decision already. I’ve been checking my email and their Twitter account constantly to see if any information is released.

@ vamominvabeach - I did not see in their blog that the deferred candidates were already reviewed. ??? Oh the wait…

Hi all  I got admitted a few hours ago via email and I’m really excited because it’s one of my top choices. I’d gotten a likely letter already though, which might have been why my decision came in so early.

If anyone could help me out though, that would be great- I haven’t been able to visit the school, but are the buildings really in disrepair? What were your impressions of the school? If you spoke to teachers, what did you think of them?

Thanks, and good luck to everyone!

And also, does anyone know anything about James Monroe scholars? Do they get financial aid, or is it earmarked purely for projects?

Hello!!! Congrats on your acceptance! I have looked at this school since 4th grade (I went to a wedding there) and it has been well maintained. Most recently, I visited the school during the summer and was amazed by it’s beauty. It is very well kept and a wonderful campus. It has consistently been voted one of the Top 10 Campuses and most well kept. The surrounding area of Williamsburg and village are lovely too. Teachers are fantastic and extremely knowledgeable. They are renown for writing books, field research, and much more. It’s an amazing school!!! Congrats on your acceptance!!!
