It’s great to meet you all, and congrats is anyone probably going to end up at W&M? It’s not my top choice, but it’s definitely one of them
Waitlisted and I’m pleasantly suprised
4.0 W/ 3.6 UW GPA
32 ACT
Good essay and lots of leadership/volunteering in extracurriculars
Totally thought I would be rejected due to low grades
Rejected. Trying not to bawl my eyes out but I guess someday I can probably say “oh it all worked out” even though it feels like the end of the world right now. I love W&M with my heart and soul, and have for years. They deferred me ED so I knew my chances weren’t great going into RD, but I guess I couldn’t help but hold onto hope. Congrats to everyone who was accepted - it’s an amazing school.
Son was wait-listed
out of state
4.25 W/ 3.82 UW
32 ACT
IB Diploma Candidate, lots of volunteer projects, Varsity sports, NHS, MUN, Speech and Debate, clubs, etc.
Son was accepted! Caucasian male, 2320 SAT, 34 ACT, 3.6 UW, 3.86 W, Eagle Scout, 5 Varsity sports, NHS, Academic Team, 9 APs, military brat. Weakness in GPA, AP and SAT II scores for Physics, Calc.
Accepted! But I like UVA better, so if it comes down to it in Virginia, then I’m gonna have to go with the Cavaliers.
My OOS son just got his acceptance, much to both of our surprise. His SATs were, 2140, his ACT was 30, his UW GPA was 3,84, his transcript has all APs and honors classes, extracurriculars: class president for two years, captain of varsity sports team, long term job; nothing over-the-top, just a hard-working , well-balanced guy. Another college commented on his essay in their acceptance letter, so I guess that he stood out there. Best of luck to all of you!
My in state S was wait listed. All his stats were above the mean. We live 30 minutes from W&M and his guidance counselor had told us that it is so hard to predict W&M acceptances but that they tend to accept only a few students from each of the local high schools and I understand that. They want to have that diversity of geography.
Just wanted to say that for all those disappointed kids because it is not always about you because you are great and a waitlist decision is an honor with a school like William and Mary.
D is a Monroe scholar admitted as class of 2019. There is a $3000 scholarship this comes with in our case, I think it’s the same amount for all students. D has been admitted to 9 colleges so far and William and Mary is top of the list. My understanding is that it is a wonderful college. If D gets into an Ivy or Georgetown maybe she won’t go there. Give it serious consideration
Accepted, out of state! I got the cypher a month or so ago, but seeing the email was definitely a boost for the day.
D wait listed OOS. 2260 SAT, lots of ECs, 11 APs GPA 4.2 W/3.78 UW Congrats to those accepted. To those denied good luck. To those wait listed…uggghhhh now what???
OOS got waitlisted. A little surprised because my stats are not amazing. I’ve realized just how random this process can be, because I have gotten denied from less selective schools.
GPA: 3.79 uw, 4.29 w
ACT: 30
The stats for the waitlist are not great (I think maybe less than 10%) but good luck to all.
OOS son accepted! Hard working, nice kid, varsity runner, high GPA, good test scores. He is very excited! Wish we could get some merit aid but I don’t think that will happen.
Rejected
ACT- 30
UW GPA- 3.8

Really thought i would get in, kinda bummed
Accepted.
ACT - 32
SAT - 2170
Salutatorian in class of 250
President National Honor Society
Editor-in-Chief HS Newspaper

Waitlisted. 1860 SAT, 27 ACT, 4.24 GPA, lots of Extracurricular activities, lots of AP classes. Kinda bummed but got into other schools that I really like so I know I’ll be good where ever I go.
waitlisted OOS
korean
1420 SAT (terrible i know). 4.17/4 weighted gpa. top 10%
780 bio sat/720 chem sat
great essay and personal health/adversity
principal oboist of prestigious NYC orchestra, went touring in scotland this summer.
EC: oboe, tennis, community garden, tutoring disadvantaged/disabled kids, not a lot of clubs
surprised i was waitlisted after being rejected from uva especially being OOS and korean. idk whether to hope or not considering less than 10% of waitlisted is admitted.
QUESTION****** on the faq it says that if admitted from waitlist then you will be notified AFTER may 1 (when u have to make a deposit somewhere)… is it as simple as if admitted later putting in the deposit and then switching to W&M?
Yes. You just tell the school where you originally put down a deposit that you won’t be attending there after all, and you forfeit the deposit to that other school.
They may want to know why you are not attending after all, and it’s fine to tell them the truth. It happens.
It can have a wave effect, too. Student A gets into school “Oxbridge”, and tells school “Stanceton” where he had originally put a deposit that he won’t be attending there after all. Stanceton goes to their waitlist and make an offer to student B, who accepts; student B then tells school “Punn”, where he had put a deposit, that he won’t be attending there after all. Punn goes to their waitlist and make an offer to student C, who accepts; student C then tells school “Wonderbilt”, where she had put a deposit, that she won’t be attending there after all, etc. They each lose their original deposit, but it’s only like 1% of the annual price anyway, so they don’t much care.
@FCCDAD ok thank you!
Accepted OOS. Got the postcard and Monroe scholar notification a little while ago but wanted to add to the results for future applicants. 2280 SAT, 4.59w GPA, at least top 3% of class , leadership, some clubs, church stuff, part-time job, and commitment to service. Probably won’t be attending because of the high price but I’m waiting for the financial aid package before I make any decisions.
