College of William and Mary vs. NYU

I got into both schools and I am torn between the two. Which one is the better (undergraduate) school?

Thanks

NYU is better for business and film. I think W&M is better for everything else.

Pretty much what Datkid said, even though our business school (graduate at least) is supposed to be topnotch. But then again, I heard business schools don't really want business majors because they want to mold you themselves.

completely different settings... does that matter at all to you?

in response to soccerguy315:

i have very much wanted to live in new york city for a long time (and i have visited there several times). i live in va now and am very interested in getting out of state but was justing wondering if nyu is worth the money...not 100% sure what i want to major in yet

if the money is no issue, and it's your dream to live in NYC, I'd say go for it.

But, if money matters at all, for me, personally, there would be no way to justifiy the cost of NYU over in state at WM. But, it's not worth going somewhere you won't be happy, either.

Ok, regarding The College's bschools. The grad school is not "topnotch". Not in the sense I think of the word anyways (HBS, Wharton, Stanford, Sloan, even Darden is better by leaps and bounds). If you go to The College for undergrad, you shouldn't be going to the bschool here too (you can prob get in somewhere better). But it is still a good school.

The undergrad bschool, however, is gaining reputation. We were ranked #29 in the business week undergrad bschool rankings last month after not being ranked previously, which was probably due to lack of exposure not an actual lack of quality. I can go into recruiting, which is all that really matters, but I'm not sure if anyone cares so ask if you want to know.

As for NYU v. W&M, it depends on what you want (major, setting, etc). It's pretty much an apples to oranges comparison.

Okay I suppose that I'm mistaken about our grad school. I got that impression because W&M and UVA's business grad schools were credited with Virginia's economic success in a news article I read.

Go to W&M and don't look back. It's a much better school at the undergraduate level and you'll save boatloads of cash. Go to NYC for work or graduate school later on.

I went to William and Mary for undergrad but took a course my senior year at NYU to finish off one of my requirements. In my experience, students at William and Mary are much more focused and intellectual - at one point in my class at NYU, I was one of two people out of a class of 25 students who had actually read the assigned article. When the professor asked why no one else had read it, some students claimed they did not know how to find the article at the library. Considering that this was an upper level biology class which was open to upperclassmen only, I found this ridiculous. I had been at the school for 2 weeks and managed to find the library and get the paper, and they couldn't? Needless to say, I was not impressed with the caliber of students compared to W&M. In my opinion, it's not worth paying Ivy League levels of tuition for NYU. William and Mary offers a much better education for much less money.

When else will you get a chance to experience living in the middle of nyc without paying extrordinary living expenses.. Go NYU for the experience..

I can't think of a better reason not to go to NYU...I wouldn't have to live in NYC if I didn't go there! lol

Just kidding, you guys!
