college options for a perfect scorer

I got a Sat I score of 1600 (800M, 800V) and wish to apply for undergrad business. I am an international student and have good academic records with vast extracurricular activities.
What could be my ideal selection of colleges keeping in mind that

amount of financial assistance (may be a tuition waiver) is my #1 priority

and then comes the 'undergrad business' programme rank

Thanks

Give Me More Stats!!!

I am currently in 11th Std (Junior year)

AC:
I know my percentile rank of 10th (Board Exams) - ~94

EC:
Community service
Alliance Francais French Course level 1
Member of CHOICE organization committee (Council for Handling and Organising Inter College Events)
Member of the Junior College Student's Council
Projects: Simulations on - Stock Market, Soccer, Mind Games
Essay writing, poetry writing, public debates (3rd prize), elocutions
Won the table-tennis in my school
Participated in the inter-school Bournvita Quiz Contest

I'll be applying for Fall 2006

hey
great SAT!

looking at ure other stats its hard to say where u can apply...since SAT is not the only thing universities look at...can u give me more stats such as:
High school?
11-12th grade curriculum?
subjects and at what level?
SAT IIs?

oh btw nice EC too akshay...

since only .07% of students AkA 7 in 10,000 students acheive that score, I'd apply to many ivy leagues and other top tier schools (Northwestern, Rice..etc.)

You will probably get accepted into atleast 1 of them

Thankx all of you,
regarding other academic achievements,
my college does not provide percentiles, so I really can't comment.
Also, my college has good international reputation seeing so many top US and European giving talks about their courses here
I have not yet given SAT IIs.
What I basically wanted to know was my chances at a top 20 undergrad business with CONSIDERABLE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

SATs are crap. They're important, but you need a whole lot of other stuff to get in.

one of my best friends got a 1600 on his SAT and he had perfect grades, lots of volunteer stuff, the works. He still got turned down by Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and Columbia. He's now at U of Oklahoma. :-/

MIT gives good aid for internationals (AFAIK it's need blind) and the business school is well regarded. You should also look at the Wharton school at Penn - they are not need blind with admissions for international students, but if you get accepted they meet full need. I got accepted (not to Wharton though) with scores a hell of a lot worse than that and they're giving me grants/scholarships.
Basically the places that offer good financial aid for international students are the top universities and liberal arts colleges - Harvard, Yale, Amherst etc. Unfortunately most of them don't have undergrad business. You have probably as good a shot as anyone (and better than most people) though.
Plenty of other schools might give you good merit aid with perfect scores though - it's just that being an intl student can complicate things a little.

SAT's won't save you in your case...

Colleges do realize that anyone can get a 1600 on the SAT with the work ethic. Anyway, you're bound to get into an Ivy League with your stats, even if Dartmouth.

Dartmouth...

...

Since I will start the application process next year,
in what areas should I work on to improve my chances ?
I would say my percentile rank in college is > 80% (of 1000 students)

Please comment on the importance of (i.e. weigtage given to) "Project
Work/Research/Publications"

Why do you want UG business? For top students, UG business only makes sense for entrepreneurs, people who don't want to get an MBA, or people who want to do something very non-traditional. Especially as an international I would say unless you get into Wharton (and even if you do), its much better to go to a top school and major in economics. If you want to stay in the states you will most likely try to get a banking or consulting job and people from Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, Columbia, and Princeton seem to do extrordinarily well in this area. Michigan, NYU-Stern, UC-Berkeley, and MIT-Sloan are pretty much the only three after wharton that can come close to these, but aid might be an issue. You might want to even check out williams which gives out great international aid and has similar placement as those ivies. My advice, apply to:

Harvard
Yale
Princeton
Dartmouth
Columbia
Wharton
Michigan
UCB
MIT-Sloan
NYU
Williams
Middlebury (int aid is good)

Michigan, UCB & NYU do not give fin aid to internationals

Tsunami, what's your beef with Dartmouth?

Dartmouth, Brown, Colombia, U Penn...

I wouldn't go to 'em... Kinda mediocre Ivies in my opinion and not worth all the hassle/sacrifice.

So for an awesome financial aid,
would applying for economics give more opportunities than business studies ?
I personally like economics as well as business.

Tsunami, are you kidding? Do you know what you are talking about at all?

First of all you misspelled Columbia. Second, these schools are all amazing, especially in liberal arts for undergrads. They do amazingly well in grad placement and business (top ten WSJ), right up there with HYP. If there is any Ivy that is different its cornell, which is great for science and engineering but very less focused on liberal arts or undergrads.

Ashkay, the majors won't change your chances, but the schools will. Williams and the Ivies will possibly give you aid, and you can major in econ and do better in the end had you majored in business and gone somewhere lesser.
