When we lived on the East Coast my son went to the state public university and majored in Accounting. He had secured an internship with PWC after his Jr. year, and was offered a wonderful job with them after his Sr. year. They are also paying for his masters degree, and for all of the courses he needs for his CPA. Two of the other students he interned with who were also offered jobs went to Boston College and Notre Dame, where they paid many, many times more in tuition than he did, and they both have large loans to pay off. All three of them are at the exact same level. Now, we live in Ohio, and my daughter turned down several top schools that were very costly to attend OSU on full scholarship. She is in the Honors college with special housing and is able to have priority scheduling. She is loving the city of Columbus, and is going to plays, concerts, etc, and enjoys the political atmosphere of a major mid-west capital city. She thought that she had to go to schools in D.C. or N.Y. for internship opportunities, but OSU has apartments in every major city in the world for their interns. She is saving her money for grad or law school, and enjoying the incredible wealth of opportunities that OSU offers–I have been very impressed. ( When I think that her $45,000.00/year could have gone to pay for lemonade and cookies and security for the President of Iran, I’m sure glad that she made the choice that she did.)
