College options for engineering?

Im going to be a senior in hs next year and i would like to know some good engineering schools. My current gpa is a 3.6.

engineering programs are acredited by ABET, so there is much less variation in content (and reputation) than you have for majors like History or Econ. The top 2 schools are Caltech and MIT, and after that reputation is going to largely track selectivity in admissions. Pretty much, though, if you get into an acredited program and graduate with a 3.4+ you will have good job opportunities. Higher GPA is better, and getting internships is a crucial step to being competitive for the best employers.

im a senior in highschool how hard would it be to get into syracuse or u of connecticut for engineering

Not very hard, what are your scores?

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, CA was ranked the #1 Engineering school in the United States like two years ago.

great place to live too…3 minute drive to some great beaches.

My sat score is 1850 and i will be taking it again in the fall along with a spanish subject test which i had a 750 in.

The best place to start is probably right in your own “backyard” (your state of residency). Many states have excellent engineering programs that would match your profile and be more affordable.

What state are you from?

my state of residency is New York that is why im considering syracuse and University of buffalo

If you can get that SAT up, look at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

The first thing you should decide is whether you are looking for an “Institution” (e.g., RPI) where the focus of the school is on Sciences and Engineering, or a “University”, such as Syracuse or UConn, which has a broader curriculum and students with more diverse interests.

There’s no right or wrong here, but you will probably have somewhat different educational experiences.

(btw, with your scores – at least look at Purdue, Northeastern, Maryland and Wisconsin-Madison, Delaware – all have excellent programs – and your SATs are in their range).
