College packing list?

Hi,

I was wondering if there was a college packing list for Muir or UCSD incoming freshmen?

UCSD has a general list of what to bring but I’d think it over and bring other stuff too. Think about what you use daily and totally couldn’t live without (aka toiletries but I suppose you can buy them there).

[UC San Diego Housing Rates and Services](http://hdh.ucsd.edu/housing/value.asp#provide)

Oh, and there was another thread somewhere on this forum about what people were bringing.

vyoung got it all R-DNA, any special items you were concerned about?

^^^what the heck lol, isn’t it that chemical thing that suppresses tension and calms down your neurons?

no no, my bad. I meant the supplement to ease out the tension, I know GABA is in your brain already. Does it have any side effects?

hmmm, I think I will search for it tomorrow and order some.

^ what is wrong with this guy why is he having a conversation with himself lol

Lol. A ■■■■■ was posting earlier and his posts got deleted.

[acatnamedollie: College List Okay. Here is my Master Lis](What to Bring to College and College Advice: acatnamedollie — LiveJournal)

definitely don’t bring everything on this list because you won’t need most of it (i had boxes of stuff that i put under my bed when i moved in and i didn’t look at any of it again until i moved out), but it’s a good idea to read over the list because it probably mentions something really obvious that slipped your mind.

why would I have conversation with myself? there was this user named Muscle7sDaddy and I was having conversations with him about the GABA supplement but I warned him about using some obscene words on CC that are being tracked by the CC filters, he used one of them and got deleted.

ohh crap sorry sync hahah

for our laptops…do we need to bring a cable to connect to the internet?
or is it okay to connect using wifi?

nvm, i found the answer in other threads, i can use wifi or a ethernet cable…

^Would def recommend bringing a cable… in some college res halls (Muir and I think Revelle) wireless is nonexistent and in others (ERC) it’s slow at times.

okay, that’s good to know…thanks =]

do you know what length i should i get?
i’ve seen some as short as 3 feet or 10 feet
then some that are super long like 50 feet
i feel like i should get a super long one for just-in-case situations, and a normal one for regular use.

WIRELESS IS NON EXISTENT IN MUIR?! but why?

And thanks for the input guys!

And what exactly is buying up a dining plan supposed to mean? Arent dining services part of our housing contract and housing fees? :S

@x3anna - I think mine is like 5 or 7 feet long. I’ve never needed a longer one haha.
@R-DNA - Only in the Muir res halls (and Revelle, I believe) it’s hard to get a wireless signal, because of the very thick cinder block/cement walls that were clearly popular in the 60s when Muir was built!
Yes, dining services are part of your housing contract. You will automatically get $2795 to spend throughout the year. If you find that this is not enough, you can buy up to the $3255 plan. Or you can add random dining dollars throughout the year.

For me personally, the amount of dining $ that they gave me was more than enough - I literally could not spend them fast enough. But some of my guy friends were $200 or 300 short by spring quarter.

heres the important things you need cant mention them all

-laptop+lock (buy it online since cheaper)
-pillow+sheets
-ethernet (may need up to 20-30 feet since your desk might be at the opposite corner of the internet plug)
-clothes+towel+regular stuff (just dont overpack really. if you live in LA, even easier since you can go home often)
-a load of quarters. trust me, these are gold. and suitemates are bound to borrow some from you. they also raised the prices on the laundry machines by 25 cents each.
-printer

-debit card [ralphs and office max? or staples? cant remember. are close by]
