@emptyMT - There are Honors Seminars and Honors Classes. Honors Seminars that are offered by the Honors College, but every Seminar is not offered every semester. Then there are Honors Classes that are offered at the discretion of the individual Departments, such as ENG101H vs ENG101. You cam use the following link to see the class offerings for the current semester.
@koconnor332 start on page one - hope this answers your questions
Should I respond to the scholars invitation even if I am not sure if I am going to attend UMD?
Yes
Is there a chance for enrolled students being invited to Honors or Scholars after 1-May, if students who were offered Honors now didn’t join UMD?
No additional invites, but u can apply…

@maryversity @SoofDad What’s the greatest amount of merital aid I can get if I was admitted into the FIRE program but not into the scholars or honors? I’m an instate applicant btw.
@YoohooAddict - Being admitted to FIRE has nothing to do with Scholarship decisions. Those decisions are made on the basis of your UMD Priority application.
Merit scholarship awards are HIGHLY unpredictable and should not be anticipated. if you read @Soofdad’s thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-maryland-college-park/1959344-scholarship-facts.html#latest and look at the number of scholarships available compared to the estimate of admitted fall applicants (approx 8-10,000) you will have a better sense of why we say there is no way to determine how much, if any, merit award any student can anticipate. Being invited to honors does not correlate to anything other than being eligible to be considered for one of the 400 top B/K scholarships that require an interview.
I have seen many students complain that they were not awarded merit $ but yet were invited to honors college, so they “expected” something…not the case. I have seen students in programs other than honors (scholars, civicus, etc - and FIRE is newer but would be part of those “other” programs I am referring to) get $ and students that were not invited to any programs get $, although from the posters on cc, the latter seemed less frequent and primarily those with high enough stats to be admitted to the LEP they applied to, yet no other program.
My point is there is NO predicting them and NO threshold to base any predictions on.
@maryversity Any idea of when B/K invites will be sent? Not expecting anything, of course.
No clue. Prob towards end of February if I had to guess…?
@itsgettingreal17 See http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-maryland-college-park/1857984-banneker-key-2016.html for last year’s B/K discussion. It looks like people started getting emails to “look for something in the mail” around February 10 and a packet in the mail February 12. From the Joy Luck Club’s Suyuan to daughter June, “Not expect anything! Never expect! Only hope!”
@Engineering713 Thanks! Yep. We expect nothing from any college. And this one more than any other is very unpredictable, so we’re just hoping, like everyone else, to get super lucky and hit the mega jackpot!
@maryversity @SoofDad Ok, my question is since only honors students are considered for B/K scholarship, does that mean that people who weren’t admitted into honors cannot get a full ride scholarship? What about a half ride scholarship?
@YoohooAddict - The following thread lists the dollar amounts from the UMD Scholarship web page.
