College Park Scholars?

We were on campus on Friday and my D and I met with one of the assoc. directors of the Scholars program. He indicated that the mailing will go out this week, but that it had been delayed. (But honestly, it doesn't say more than you can find online)....it's a cardboard fold-out picture thing. The Cultures of the Americas program will not be offered for 2009-2010, and the Earth, Science... program is being replaced by "Science and Global Change". Those changes delayed the mailing, I believe.

In general, we really liked what we saw....and a student in the Scholars community showed us her dorm room in Centreville (she even cleaned it for us!!). Centreville had a "smaller" feel to me than Denton (where older D lived). There is a firewall that basically separates the building into 2 parts, North and South. In her case, the people in her program were spread across 3 floors. There are student lounges every other floor, however, but she indicated that students spend more time going to the other floors of their program than they do in one of the bigger high-rises. The lobby felt a bit more homey than Denton's did, too. The closeness of the kids in the program, and the immediate feeling of being part of a "group" with shared interests, was very appealing.

Just waiting to see about $$ against that OOS tuition!!! (The assoc, director assured us that he had no "ins" with the scholarship people!!!)

DS lives in Centreville South. He hangs out with friends on their floor lobby. He has a great group and I am sure that the homeyness of Centreville is what has been such a positive feeling of UMD for him...they go to games together, dinner and even church(when they don't oversleep ;))

I don't think he does much socializing with the north side. There just isn't a need. I know they play itermurals floor against floor and north vs south...so they do tend to have a unity feeling
