I received a letter from the "College Placement Services Group Inc" in Colorado Srpings. Basically, it states that I can get into their program which provides financial aid and other services. The letter also states that I am to be interviewed by a member of the staff at a certain time and place at the end of September. Does anyone know anything about this organization? It looks fishy to me, as I can't find anything about it by googling, or asking jeeves, etc.

It's a scam if I remember correctly. You should able to find more information by searching old threads.

Remember the old maxim--"If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." You can get counseling advice from your HS or doing your own research. There are MANY firms available to take your money if you want to part with it. Think carefully before deciding what you want to do, how much it costs & what you'll get that you can't get cheaper or on your own.

So did you go? i got one too and i went to it. do you think it is too good to be true?

No, I didn't go. I've researched it and I'm 99% positive it's all BS.

Well I did a little research on this company and I didn't really find anything bad or hear anything bad. I actually called the company to inquire and they were really nice about everything. They didn't try to sell me anything and basically told me what to expect at the interview/seminar. I asked how they guarantee funding and the explained on the invite letter it tells how they do it. If you look on the invite letter it it says the do it by scholarships, grants, endowments, loans, work study, etc. Basically they told me that they do all the work for my family and I.

They said that this information is freely accessile via the web and other sources but with the amount of information out there and the difficulty of finding it it can become quite burdensome.

I think this could be a great service; I don't have the time and neither does my family so it makes a lot of sense to me. I did see one blog regarding a girl that did sign up for the service and she was very pleased with what they found her, wo we're thinking about giving it a shot.

Know up front & get in writing what your family needs to pay/owes. Also get in writing what is being promised/offered by the company. Getting loans you could just get for yourself doesn't seem worthwhile for many of us. If your grades/scores are high enough for merit aid, you don't need any company, as the U will offer you money without you hassling with much paperwork (if any). iAny money associated with this "service" is money you could put toward your college education instead. Basically, all folks need to do is fill out the FREE FAFSA, which all colleges require if you want need-based aid. The company still needs all your info & tax returns to help you fill it out, so what are you saving?
Most aid (need & merit) is administered by the school that accepts you and wants you to attend. There is no "magic," and there really are no short-cuts. Getting $ just takes following the steps, but it's the choice of each student & family as to how to go about it.

Spent 10 minutes on the phone. They say that they have been in business for 14 years but they have only been incorporated less than 1 year.

They say that they used to be known by another name but said they could not tell me the name of the old company because of lawsuits against the company.

When I asked their success rate and level of support that they were able to secure on average they said I would get that after a I met with their councilors and paid a fee.

Based on their evasiveness opn the phone and the refusal to provide simple facts about the company I would say that THIS COMPANY IS A GIANT SCAM IMO.

I will tell you that I live in Colorado Springs (where they claim to be located) and have never heard of the company. Their address is one of those rent-a-suites and no one in our town has heard of them or uses them (I asked around).

I would say that if the company doesn't even do business where they are located, they are pretty suspect.

did you end up signing up with them and paid their $1,000 fee? we did in 11/2006 and guess what? we never got anything from them. at first they appear legit by sending my daughter some forms to apply for fafsa and sent us her profile. after i faxed them our completed 2006 itr, i never heard from them. i have been trying so hard to contact them by phone and all i got was their voice mail (of course I left numerous voice mails). By 06/2007 I filed a complaint with BBB in Colorado and they determined that College Placement Services Group was doing their job to help my daughter get funding for college. I have asked for a refund and they said there is no refund policy, but services were not delivered. I just found out today that their company closed, filed for bankruptcy, and involved in a big litigation. Their email address and website no longer exist. I don't know what else to do to get back my money back. I have lost faith with the BBB. Any suggestions? Please!

I checked the Better Business Bureau of Southern California ( Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado | Search Reports ) and it says that the company is no longer in business.

I also read some other customer experiences... and basically everyone who paid money to this company got SCAMMED.

It's out of business anyways....

Check out the link I provided yourself!

idno, thanks for your info. would you please give me the website where you read the other client's experiences and got scammed just like me?

If this company has had access to your FAFSA in any way I'd say that you are a prime candidate for identity theft.

They scammed me for $1100 as well…and made me put a down payment of $200. They told me i was going to recieve double that when i start school if not double then at least my money back. Their info was ,

college placement services group, inc

i dont know how to go about getting my money back…:(

I’d contact your office of Consumer Protection & Better Business Bureaus & see what can be done. Perhaps if enough complain, the AGs will file a class action suit against these outfits to help shut them down.
