hey guys. i know that this is really random and has nothing to do with this thread but i just want to know something. As questbridge apps are approaching, i have been thinking about my personal essay. i decided to write about my first encounter with my mother. the only problem is that on U.S. immigration papers and legal documents my mother is listed as my grandmother while my mother is listed as my sister(my grandmother and i fled war, but we thought we would never see my mom, that’s why my grandmother is listed as my mother). plus, i qualify as a first generation college student since my mom never finished high school.
phew, that was lot. but anyways what i want to know is how i should explain this to admissions and should i?(is it legal)… my grandmother did this because she thought i would get deported since my mother lives in another country…

I’m not too sure how questbridge works, but I’ll be definitely applying to the summer program and…idk I have to read the webpage lol
This whole moth I’ve been working on sending my application to a summer internship, but it’s very selective, so I’d feel more comfortable applying to the college prep scholarships
How about you?

And @cristian,
I don’t know how to answer that. In my opinion, I think it would be a very interesting and unique essay to write about. And there should not really be any limits of writing an essay, especially one from QB. Are you an american citizen?

sadly, no. i’m simply a permanent resident. i moved here when i was ten. see that’s the problem. my parents were extremely scared that this “situation” wil ruin my citizenship status. for this reason i want to know if it was ever illegal in the first place becuase my parents are extremely paranoid when it comes to immigration things… bullocks

I honestly don’t think QB is going to really care about the legal issues of whether your situation is just or not. But don’t trust me LOL you might want to contact QB and ask them that. But you are definitely eligible to apply, and since that issue is very personal to you, just go for it :)

the apps aren’t up!!! ***REAK.

hi guys, just sorta reading through this page…cristianobaha your story sounds extremely heartwarming & i would definitely mention it. The QB app offers you the chance to explain it via your Biographical Essay, as well as an “Additional Information” section, and i’d say the little mix up (if it needs to appear somehow) could easily be explained in that way.
But I encourage each and every one of you rising seniors to apply for questbridge! I found out about the program last year just by doing an online search…didn’t really know what to expect, if it’s real, if it actually works…etc. My guidance counselor had no clue and was pretty skeptical about its legitimacy. But I spent the month of September (what a stressful first month of senior year it was) getting the app ready, getting the teacher recs done and etcetera…and by mid October they contacted me to let me know I’m a finalist! It was truly a dream come true. I’m still waiting to hear back from the QB Partner schools i’ve selected (10 of them…couldn’t help myself since applying is free for applicants :)!) but so far it’s just incredible. The recognition, the opportunity…just all of it. If you guys have any questions feel free to PM me and i’d be happy to help!

–oh and btw, the whole reason I decided to post…if you’re looking for next year’s application…the National College Match they won’t put that up until August like the Common App I believe.

We are waiting for the college prep scholarship which is supposedly available mid February.

But that’s so awesome! Congrats! I hope that you see lots of great acceptance letters come April I will definitely be contacting you for advice… As soon as apps come on :D

Quest Bridge has released the applications.

Yes!!! Thank you!!

The application is longer than I thought…and only one month to complete…whoa
And I couldn’t pass the last quiz…some question about little discrepancies that can hinder one’s acceptance in college or something. I kept getting that question wrong o__o

Hey guys… as I was reading most of your comments about Standardized Test Scores… I too feel conflicted about it…

I haven’t taken the SAT since sophomore year and I got a 1790 on that one…
And my AP Tests and PSAT test scores suck b/c I didn’t really try on any of them…
However… I’m ranked 14/459 or top 3% or whatever and I have a pretty high GPA unweighted and Weighted… (all A’s except for B in AP LANNGG!!)

Do you still think I have a chance on getting accepted? Or should I just forget about it?

So, how are the applications going everyone? I was pretty surprised at the size of this application. The teacher recommendation alone is 5 pages long. I don’t think my own mother could fill out a 5 page recommendation for me xD. Thankfully, My Physics/Chemistry teacher agreed to be my teacher recommender before he even saw it…

I’ve got all the basic info in it and I just need to write the essays and figure out which 5 ECs are going to make it on the list. I’ve got 3 that are going on there for sure, but I’m not sure which ones I should pick after those…
Good luck to everyone :)

haha oh dear…the application is rather long. I just have so much going on…i haven’t really been able to work on them. But next weekend, I’m gonna buckle down and work on them. I think I have my 5 extra curriculars…but one of them is my job? there is a separate section for jobs…but do you guys think I can still put it on?

and good luck :)

and innrcitypressure, definately apply! you have 0% chance of getting in if you don’t.

I applied to harvard summer school and got in:D can i still apply for prep summer program scholarship since i already got accepted to a summer school? i only want the scholarship;)

bump
Do you guys know what type of questions they ask on the teacher recommendation thing?

^^ After you register your recommender there’s a link u can click to print out the recommendation form in case you recommender does not have internet access.

How are you guys handling the (extremely long) application so far?

I am progressing terribly >__> ^

asinine16: your last post ! i cant pass that test either !! its so annoying !!! i havent tried again for a few days though. maybe its an error?

and question for everyone: i sent sophmore year in nigeria. first semester was at an international school and i got 3.3 average hard time adjusting because my parents had actually tricked me into going. but second semester i was switched into a local school in a small village . my average was like a 54 or something but its out of 65 and not 100!! how do i explain that?

Ugh! This application is so long! I’ve only managed to complete the household and personal information sections as well as the award preferences. I really am hoping that my ‘recommender’ actually would be willing to recommend.
