College Prep 2011!

Exactly, the Quest Bridge app is all about harships and being a disadvantaged student. If you did not adequately express that among the thousands of students did then that is why you weren’t selected. TASP is less known and its extended format gave you sufficient enough room to express yourself. But seriously dude, being a finalist for TASP is awesome. Congrats.

what the TSAP actually stand for and i haven’t really heard about questbridge even though i applied for it. how significant is it really?

Congratulations everyone!

I got invited to the stanford conference and nominated for the all-expense paid campus visits.

Does anyone know how many people applied to college prep this year? 1,000 people get invited to the conference so what percentage of applicants get invited??

Can those of you attending the Stanford conference add their names :D??? (I’m not sure if a list has been already created…soo here it is C:)

@nhi1605 in this link [QuestBridge College Prep Scholarship - Overview](http://www.questbridge.org/cps/award_notifications/conference_schedule.html) the conference lasts until 6:30pm. It starts at 8:00am so I don’t think you attend only half of the conference.

The email said that 30% percent of applicants got the conference thing (or it might have been an award in general, I don’t remember)

Anyone have a rough date of when Quest for Excellence awards were released last year?

heheh, I don’t want to sound stupid or anything, but how do you find out about programs like questbridge and tasp??

I only found out about QB because my chem teacher was talking about it. Do you guys know any other programs (hopefully ones not past the application deadline??)

Edit: or it might have been 30% got an award in general … And there’s not supposed to be a percent after 30% (lulz, I’m on my iPod)

@mmmcats: Thanks. I felt my chance of getting accepted by QB was minimal anyway, after I got all the essays done.
@jamesjoy: TASP. Telluride Association Summer Program. it is not super well known, but it is hard to get in (5%). And so it gets much attention from Admission officers.
@orangefoot: Somebody said it was around 5000 people this year. So roughly 20%?

Gee is there something we all have in common? It is this: It is Friday night, many of us are on spring break, and almost all of us are home getting ready for our AP exams!!! Let’s all make a pact to stick together this year-we can upload essays, read and give each other advice on college apps/essays etc. Maybe we can make facebook pages, one for the Yale conference, one for those going to the Stanford conference, and all of us can get to know each other before the conferences.

i’m attending the stanford conference ! jane joyce

@orangefroot
I know about TASP because of this forum (the kids in the summer programs section always rave about how it’s a “hook”). Lol, I opened up the application for it back in Decemeber and was like “sikeee” - way too long. I still don’t understand what it actually is.
I also found QB while browsing this site (they also emailed and mailed me)

@Sue
YES TOTALY!! make pages for the yale and stanford conferences.

++ i ACTUALLY DIDN’T STUDY FOR MY AP EXAMS! LOL the QB results thing made me too antsy. it was impossible to concentrate! But totally gonna get in study mode tomorrow

whoa 5%??? Congratulations belly! I’d be wayy happier being a finalist for tasp than being invited to a qb conference :slight_smile:
maybe you didn’t have enough demonstrated need for qb??

@Sue that sounds like an awesome idea!

okay so

:)

@Sue the facebook page sounds like a great idea, but I don’t feel comfortable sharing my admission essays, especially online.

Yeah, i’m not sharing my essays. lol

so does qb look good on ur college app?
sorry i really haven’t heard about qb before, i don’t know much about college stuff…

@grammar girl: I know what you mean, but not the ones that are personal, I am talking about general subjects such as “discuss a topic that interests you”, or, “what are your goals and why” type topics. Or those really freaky essay prompts. We could send them to each other via private messages and give objective advice. I do not even want my guidance counselor to know some of my ‘personal struggles’ so I know what you mean.

We are going to make it a family Memorial Day vacation. Course dd has finals the next week, but at least her AP and IB tests will have been over.
