College Prep 2011!

@Somestudent - I would assume they pick from the ones you are interested in. I chose most of them. Only left out Notre Dame and UPenn.

You guys are right: pushing “submit” was a great feeling! It’s kind of depressing, though. I began my application the very first day it was available, and couldn’t bring myself to submit until about 15min ago. I revised all of my essays about 3 times just in the past day.

Now, how long does it take to get our results back? -Impatient/worrisome person-

I also applied to the premed award. That was an easier essay to write. I did not have to do as many revisions.

Anyway, good luck to all!

FINALLY phew I clicked submit just seconds before midnight :)

Haha so I guess I wasn’t the only one who submitted 2 minutes before the deadline.

Does anyone know the approximate number of people that apply to the college prep scholarship?

Will the colleges see our entire application or only Questbridge? I realize that the schools will probably know our income and scores, but will they see the essays and answers to other questions as well? And if so, will they / can they use that information in a year when we apply to that school or will we get a fresh start?

Hey everybody! I just found this thread and started reading everyone’s posts from a while ago…I am now extremely worried about something! My teacher recommendation still says “in progress” even though my teacher said she submitted it. What are we doing wrong?? Please help!!

Well, through a flurry of essay-writing last night, I managed to submit my application 2 minutes before the deadline. I’m not overly anxious though, since I’ve already received a scholarship to NOLS this summer, which will also be a good experience.

So, does anyone know when we receive our decision notifications?

^^ We hear back by April 22nd
And last year 4600 people applied (from last years forum)

@ Leadergirl, you probably should have put them regardless. I do think 8 sibling even if you don’t live with them is good information to give. When I applied last year, I just listed my 4 half-brothers as full and put I lived with them but then put in the additional info the corrections since they didn’t have the options. If you apply for the Match, just keep that in mind.

wow 4600
:OOOOOO

my chances of winning anything are so little :[

my luck is slim
:[
:[

I am dying. My rec was horrible since my teacher had to start all over again and barely finshed the letter and short answers. They’re literally like one word anaswers. But I guess at least its something…darn,darn,darn!

Ughh why am I still able to log onto my account? Everything is completed, did I miss a hidden “submit” button or something? And why can I not see my recommender’s work? Who knows what kind of crazy things my teacher said about me? Ughhhh and also my SAT score comes out tonight…do I fax this? Ughhhh someone answer…PLZ

i didn’t have time to write a quest for excellence award. i would happy with just a conference invite…anything really.
Last time i ever procrastinate!
good luck everybody! i know how much this means to not only me but all of you, as well! keep your fingers crossed!

I’m gonna start a list of people who applied:

something better (Bengali Female) PA

@ asinine16 Does your application say ‘completed and submitted’ if so then everything is o.k but i don’t think they accept anything thing after the deadline. Also, you are not supposed to see your recommendation forms (no one can) for privacy and what not.

I applied :)

Hey Everybody! I am so nervous about this selection process. I really want to know as soon as possible if I was chosen, but at the same time I don’t want to find out if I wasn’t picked. There are so many people that apply for this scholarship I feel like I won’t have the right background or the right scores to be picked. How many Quest for ExcellenceAwards did everyone apply for? I applied for the Women’s Leadership, Science and Technology, Rural, and Arts awards. Good luck to all of you and don’t stress waiting for April 22nd to come around.

@liddydonaghy, I had the same question about the faxes. I faxed my transcript and scores the day they were due and found out that they have a 48 hour processing period. I emailed QuestBridge to ask about this, and they said as long as it was in by the deadline, it is okay.

@ asinine16
I took the March SATs as well and had my counselor directly fax my scores today. I emailed questbridge and asked them if they would take my march sats and they said that they would take the March scores before April 1st.

How did you do on the test? I didn’t do brilliantly… but I did decent. It was my first time.

@somethingbetter

I don’t understand the purpose of tallying the usernames of those who applied. But if you’re curious, I applied as well and also happen to be a bengali female in the northeast.

@noloserhere

Yes! I asked my counselor to fax my score today ! :smiley:
Did you just print out the score showing on collegeboard? I did that…lol and then my counselor stamped it

I didn’t do too well actually so I am a little disappointed :frowning: I am happy though that I was able to break 700 on CR ! (never happened before, the highest I got on a practice test was 660!)
CR: 700
M: 720
W: 620 ;(

Did you manage to do okay?

Oh and I am adding myself on the list :D

something better (Bengali Female) PA

pinkrocket

asinine16

Anyone know how many excellence awards are given out in total?

@ClarisseAWilson: It turns out that my teacher didn’t fax it, but stayed up filling it out online. I got an email from him at 12:45 AM saying he finished. A very nice thing to do, but I told him it was fine to fax it! I hope yours gets uploaded soon.

We can send our SAT scores in?! Except my guidance counselor doesn’t come in on Fridays. Arrgghh.

Just wanted people to know that you can request application extensions for any part of the application so don’t be too worried if something didn’t get in on time! Sounds like most of you got everything in but I just wanted everybody to know it wasn’t the end of the world if they didn’t. I got an extension for my teacher recommendation because she didn’t get it in on time! Lame, right?

@neuroscience
I wondered the same thing. Do they give out one award per group? I mean, one arts, one rural, one first gen, etc. And do you have any choice whether you get the laptop or the campus visit? I really want a campus visit! That is the only way I will get to see any of the colleges I plan to apply to…

@ asinine16

Okay, it’s one thing to make a list of people who got accepted and are planning to attend the college prep conference at Yale/Stanford. At least then theres a purpose to the list (to potentially meet up and make friends with fellow CC college prep scholars). However, all that the list does right now is consolidate a reason to compare who won what in the coming month. It’s… silly, I think, because you cannot possibly find and list all 4600 people applicants. And if one actually had the obscure, inane desire to make a personal list of applicants, they may as well go through this thread and type down the names of everyone who had bothered to ask a question that implied their applicant status.

Sorry if that came off as too serious or hostile–I just don’t get the point of it.

About your question.

Critical Reading: 740 98%
Math: 680 90%
Writing: 750 98%
Essay: 11

It was my first time taking it, so I think I did okay… Not stellar, but okay.

@drumwriter22:
I’d be happy with either prize. It’s the only way I’d be able to visit colleges as well. I feel like only one person per category will get a laptop though–those things are expensive. I think the QFE prizes are rare because I didn’t see a lot of people report receiving them on last year’s decision-thread.
