Hi guys, I’m going to attend the last year of high school at a private college in California, but I don’t know which one to choose, I stayed between College Preparatory School, The Harker School or Harvard-Westlake School, about academic performance at SAT and about acceptance rate at universities. Thanks
Could you please clarify what you are asking? Where will you be living? College Prep is in Northern Cal, Harvard Westlake in Southern Cal. Neither are boarding. They are extremely competitive- so not necessarily something you can choose - you have to get in first.
Need more info.
Get your parents to buy a house in Palo Alto and attend Gunn HS. It’s public and free.
They are indistinguishable academically, absolutely top-tier and demanding. The bigger questions are 1) where will you be admitted; 2) how do you have the flexibility to live in Oakland, or San Jose, or Los Angeles? 2) are your parents going to move just so you can attend 12th grade at one of these? Not quite understanding.
I heard Westlake has more students eventually go into the Entertainment industry, think they have strong alumni networking in that industry.
AFAIK for senior year there are no “entry slots” for those schools - regardless of merit, you can only enroll if someone else dropped out.
For the Bay Area private high schools, they are insanely expensive. They’re about the same price as a year at an Ivy. I like your advice about getting a home and going to public school! That being said, home prices in the Bay Area are equally insane!
Unless your family is planning on donating a boatload of money, you should not expect a senior spot. Perhaps if you are moving and also repeat a year. Most private school do not allow senior transfers. Otherwise, they are all prestigious, rigorous, have excellent college outcomes. A year at one of them will make a difference in your SAT scores.
Sorry. I meant to write a year at one these schools will not make a difference in your SAT scores.
Good luck getting a house in PA for 3 million lol. I live in PA right now. Gunn is pretty good tho; I go to Paly.
