Gee, then what adjective would you use to describe some of the campaign rhetoric? Rude would be woefully inadequate in my opinion.
@HarvestMoon1
Couldn’t agree with you more
But I also agree with the Michelle Obama sentiment - when they go low, we go high.
Civility people, civility
@marvin100
I think you misread my point. I think it’s fine that the cast addressed Pence. The booing in my view was not cool. You can seek justice and take a high road at the same time. Not mutually exclusive imo.
@wisteria100 – I think you misread MLK’s point: When the focus is on civility, change doesn’t happen. I don’t particularly care about Pence (although the pres-elect’s “safe…space” tweet is rich) and wish Broadway were in the midst of a sold-out 10-year run of Bertolt Brecht plays
@marvin100
I get the point. You have to make people uncomfortable to get progress. That can be protesting, that can be the cast making an address. But booing a guy who walks into a theatre with his family, because you don’t agree with him on the issues- what does that accomplish? It’s like the marchers protesting Trump’s inappropriate language, by shouting their own profanities. Just drives a bigger wedge. People need to find ways to talk to each other not at each other
What does criticizing it accomplish?
@marvin100
Well for me, what it accomplishes, is that I can have a discussion with my family about how to disagree but doing so in what I believe is an appropriate way.
Well, for the boo-ers, what booing accomplishes is that they can express their rejection of and disagreement with the vice president-elect, @wisteria100 . Nobody’s forcing or even asking you to boo, but the kind of tone policing you’re engaging with here is exactly what Dr. King was so fed up with.
Michelle Obama wouldn’t have booed.
That would be her choice. Again: nobody’s forcing or even asking you to boo.
Pence statement regarding being booed.
I think we have to give him some credit for handling himself well when asked about the whole thing. He stated he wasn’t offended, he addressed the concern and he encouraged others to see the show. He handled it a lot better than…well, you know.

No way to avoid politics. Closing thread.
