College recommendations. Chance me?

nban92, your list seems like a pretty reasonable one, considering that you are aiming for nothing but the top tier. As for harvard, you could apply just for the heck of it (many do that), and if you get in, it’ll be a great achievement (plus Harvard is amazing for econ). However I feel apprehensive about the last 3 on your list: particularly the last 2. I guess its probably because i was rejected from all of them last year =P but still, i’d urge you to consider other great, respectable econ colleges like duke, northwestern, and this may seem ironic, but caltech too (yes, they have a reputed econ program). I mean, if you’re willing to apply to williams, brown, amherst and penn (no need blind fin aid to foreign students), why not apply to the ones i mentioned? With your app, you’ll have better chances of aid/scholarship at those places.

Hmmm, maybe I will apply to duke, northwestern and chicago if I’m not pressed for time with the preboards on my head. I know caltech, stanford, MIT, CMU etc. have pretty good, if not great, econ programs, but they need you to give one science subject test which I can’t really give.

You should also consider Washington University at St Louis. They have a strong economics and business programme. And they have fat scholarships for international students :)

@nban92
Stanford and CMU do not mandate a Science subject test for all applicants.

Your logic is flawed, until you deal with concrete facts. How many Indians applied? How many required aid? How much aid did they require? How many of those who required aid got accepted, and how many of those who didn’t got accepted? What was the median SAT score of the applicants? Were the applicants more or less competitive than previous classes?

Until you know the facts dealing with rumors and assumptions does not help.
I maintain that the OP should apply to Midd.

That will be all.

For what it’s worth, last year there were 12 students from India at Middlebury. Not sure what the number is this year.

Midd is now need aware to int’ls.However,they visited recently.That means they are looking at Indian students in a favourable light.
Also,since it was need blind just a year back,I don’t think Midd would be as hard to get into as compared to other need aware colleges,just like blue_box said.
