I come from a pretty poor family and my grades were not that great. I need help finding a college that fits my needs. I plan on majoring in psychology, and my budget is $20,000. That money is all my family were able to get, so it has to pay for my tuition, food, and room & board. So, pretty much everything. Does anyone know of any colleges that have a low tuition and fees for out of state students? I don't care where the college is located, as long as it's cheap. I'm even willing to go to international colleges, as long as they're taught in English. Please help, I'm very desperate.

Is that a per year amount? I’m surprised a poor family has that much money for college. Usually your instate options are the affordable ones.

Do you know what COA means?

Why out of state? You seem to be an ideal student for starting at your local community college for two years and then transferring to a 4 year school to finish your degree. Many students with “not that great” grades (who still want to go to college) do that here. It’s a very viable path.

Or, if “not that great” is still reasonably high (just not “cc high,” put your stats/grades into a search engine (like the one on here) and check the box looking for merit aid to see what pops up. Run their net price calculator to see if it’s likely to come in affordable for you.

Also, have your family put numbers in an EFC calculator to see if that number is affordable for them. If so, schools with good need-based aid come into play too. But those go along with a “reasonably high” version of “not so great.” You don’t need perfect though.

Other places to consider might be College of the Ozarks and/or Berea.
