I just had a question regarding college recommendations.
Are you usually supposed to get recs from a science/math teacher
and an English/history teacher?
I am humanities-oriented and if I wanted to ask...say...
my AP English teacher and my journalism teacher for recs, would it be okay?
Those are both humanities-oriented classes and I didn't know if I needed the second
rec from a science/math teacher.
Is journalism categorized as an academic class? (it's an elective at our school)

I would pick a more academic class then journalism, since it is an elective or get another one from a core subject and then journalism also. Personally I am planning to get a math/science one, a humanities one and one from an elective (the teacher loves me). That being said I planing to apply to liberal arts colleges with a science major. If you know your humanities recs will be stronger go for it, but try and get at least two from core subjects.

If you’re applying through common app, go ahead and get the two core reccomenders plus the journalism, and then you can assign later. Each school has a different policy and will require specific core/academic labels and if you have any confusion, the best policy is always to pick up the phone and ask.
