College Recs

Hi... umm, i just had a couple questions. as a general rule of thumb, how many recs should i send? cuz i have 5 pretty good ones and im not sure how to differentiate between them...

1 from an AP Lit Teacher
1 from an AP Lang Teacher (on par with the honors history class teacher below, according to GC, cuz im not allowed to read this one)
1 from an AP US Hist Teacher
1 from an Honors history class teacher (but this one is the only one i read, and she said in 17 yrs i was one of the best... as a junior i emerged the leader in a class that was meant for seniors, stuff like that)
1 from a Track Coach/Health Teacher

I havent read 4 of htem (lit, us hist, lang, and coach)... they should all be excellent cuz all really like me, but i want to know how many to send

schools im applying to are

Wash U
USC
UT Austin
BU
GWU
Claremont Mckenna

im just unsure how many to send, cuz if its too many it may not be good... im pertty sure that all will depict different sides of me... like, the honors history showed my leadership in a different kinda educational enviornment, my Lit class goes to things like plays, operas and poetry readings so were really close, my track coach would take about what i do in atheltics, my us history teacher would show my passion for history (lol, as soon as i told her i got deferred from Penn she said she might have to call them and yell at them for deferring me... i thought it was kinda funny), and the lang teacher tends to write the best of all of them, though the Lit teacher also writes really well... can ne1 offer ne suggestions? thanks

Use the second and the fourth rec. If you want to send one more, use your coach's. Three is plenty.

Schools will require, accept, and prefer different numbers of recommendations...some none at all, some with no limit. I'd go with two (plus your counselor rec, which will generally be required), unless you're applying to a specific school, program, team, or whatever. No more than three plus the counselor's. Don't send two from the same discipline. If you had one from a math or science teacher, that'd be great. Otherwise, I'd definitely go with the 4th and then either the first or second. If you're having trouble and your guidance counselor HAS read them, ask him/her!
