Are the college reps that come to the high schools like random people from the university or only people who work in the admissions department and have an impact on actual admissions?

They are usually admissions counselors/representatives who are assigned to your particular state or area, i’m not sure how much of an impact that they have, but talking to them usually is so that you can have an idea of the school, exspecially if its one that’s farther away and you usually wouldn’t be able to drive to.

i rather have students from the university come talk to me. I went to one where the admission deans were talking, and it was the most boring experience of my life. They were just “be yourself, ask your guidance, check the website”

shuaishuaishuai: that’s your experience. I’m an alum volunteer “out in the field” and have accompanied my alma mater’s reps as they travel to schools that I have particular interest. They have been very good spokespeople for the college and directly answer lots of good questions. Do current students offer a good experience? Sure. To be honest, it was an info session where 3 students did the majority of the speaking that hooked me into applying to my eventual HYP college.

But they won’t be able to answer the breadth of questions I heard tossed at the college rep.

To the OP: if it’s an official from the admissions office, then of course, they will be the most informed. However, it might be a volunteer alum like me who is giving info at a local college night. I’ve probably done about 20 of them and as I regard my responsibility very highly, I stay up to date and feel I’m a more than ample representative of my college. But by definition: I would be one of the “random” people you’re citing. LOL

alright thanks for the help everybody
