HI guys I am going to apply for college this fall. Im planning to become a physician and go to college and then to med school.

First of all, is math and english a required courses for all students in college regarding their majors?

If not then is it required for Med school? I heard that it is only organic inorganic chemistry, biology and physics.

I was thinking in majoring Pre med (i heard its a major but not many college have one) and then having a minor in either psychology or sociology because the new 2015MCAT will be changed. Anyone knows more info about this?

Do you really need a minor?

Thanks

First of all, all med schools have different requirements, so you need to see which medical schools you would be interested in applying, and decide what courses to take from there. Generally, this list will suffice for most, but not all medical schools.

1 year of Biology with lab
1 year of general chemistry with lab
1 year of organic chemistry with lab
1 year of physics with lab
1 semester of bio-chem (no-lab)
1 year of English
1 year of Math (calculus and statistics)
A semester of sociology or psychology

It is probably not a good idea to pick a major entitled “pre-medical studies” because keep in mind 60% of all applicants to US MD schools are rejected every year. (out of the national total of applicants, minus the national total of matriculants.

You should study what you find the most interesting, and what you can also excel at. In other words, studying your major’s subject should feel entertaining and enjoyable.
