Is it ridiculously hard to get in? And do they look at your grades from last semester?

My grades last semester weren't too hot, but I do have a really good plan for what I'd like to study that seems like it would coincide perfectly with the goals of the program.

Not to mention it's either this, or transfer to CALS. I hate all the stupid requirements in CAS, but that's not really why I'm planning on applying for this, just happens to be a benefit.

it’s pretty hard to get in - only ~40 people get in a year. they DEFINITELY take grades into consideration. one of my best friends here is a college scholar, and he had a 3.8 freshman year when he applied in, as well as a very clear vision for his “major”

On the contrary, I’m not sure that it’s that difficult to get in. Sure, maybe only 40 people get accepted, but how many people apply? If you have something like a 3.0 and some good reason of why you should be a college scholar, you’ll probably be fine.
