Hi, I just wanted an opinion on some colleges that I was looking at and how I compare to their requirements. I will be a senior next year. If you have more colleges in mind for me that would be great!

Colleges I'm looking at:
Boston University
Boston College
Emmanuel
Stonehill
Northeastern
MIT
Tufts
Brandeis
Hofstra
Umass Amherst

Boston University - High Match
Boston College - High Reach
Emmanuel - MAtch
Stonehill - Match
Northeastern - High Match
MIT - Don’t even try…
Tufts - High Reach
Brandeis - Reach
Hofstra - Match
Umass Amherst - Safety

For UMass, general rule of thumb is that if you have a gpa above 3.0, you will get in (In state, that is).

And realistically, even though you are the first child to go to college, for you to even be considered at BC, Tufts, and Brandeis you’re math and writing need to increase 50 - 100 points each, and your critical reading needs to go up around 200 points. You will probably somewhat competitive then.

Boston University REACH
Boston College HIGH REACH
Emmanuel DON’T KNOW
Stonehill DON’T KNOW
Northeastern REACH
MIT TOTALLY OUT OF REACH
Tufts OUT OF REACH
Brandeis OUT OF REACH
Hofstra HIGH MATCH
Umass Amherst REACH

^that’s ridiculous. People get into universities with <3.0 GPAs and <1600 SAT scores.
UMass mid 50% SAT CR: 520-630, M: 540-650. So, combined, that’s an average of 1170. As linat has an SAT 1060, but a higher-than average GPA for Umass, that makes Umass at the worst a match. But if it’s like most state schools, they’ll pretty much accept everyone that is higher than a certain threshold, and it looks like linats is about their average student, rather than someone who will just barely meet their threshold.

linat92- I’m a former St. Bernadette’s parishioner! Grew up just down the street.

Consider Providence College and Stonehill - they both would be good matches for you. Emmanuel also. Its tougher these days to get into UMass Amherst - I believe they have a cut off at 3.5gpa so it still should be a match for you. Have you thought about Simmons - its a great school for women.

correction! my SAT score is a 1660…you must of read it wrong.
Thanks everyone for the input! & yes I am looking at Providence College!

Bennnie: It’s nice to receive input from a former parishioner from St. Bernadette. I agree that Stonehill and Providence would be a match. I visited Simmons but since I am currently attending an all girls school, I’m not interested in attending a non co-ed college. Thank you!
