The first school we visited was Davidson. My husband & I definitely wanted to enroll! The whole process of searching has been fun --- I didn't have the experience, and I am enjoying it. I have been very, very good about keeping my opinions to myself unless asked for them, though!!

As for the test scores, SAT may well be stronger than PSAT was. Don't forget the ACT --- my daughter did much better in comparison on that test. Some perform better on one than the other, so it's good to try both!

Just to confirm that Pitt can be very generous with merit scholarships for kids that they want. Good luck in the such and leave your options open.

It would be great if someone would compile a list of great honors programs at public universities. This is a good way to get a VALUE education. However, over the last year, I've learned of a few: Iowa State University has a fantastic honors program. Texas A&M has one that you can kind of move in and out of depending on your grade point - doesn't seem terribly structured. Must be top 10% to start in it as a freshman. University of Texas Plan II is an outstanding LAC experience with the support of the large research university. Don't know if your son's stat's are high enough to get in - they only accept 185 students. I understand outstanding writing is something important, so if he writes great essays (I think they require 3?) it might get him looked at. Also if he's top 10% it will be a big help. I've heard good things about KU. I don't know about Mizzou's honor's program, but because they have the med school there, it might be another one for you to look at. University of Arkansas has a very well-funded (Walton family....) honors program in several disciplines. Hope this helps.

Look at Drake in Iowa. My doctor's son went there and has had some great internships at NASA. She made reference to NASA having links to several Iowa schools. He will be taking his MCATs soon.
