This is probably a really random topic, but if there is anyone who is studying/has studied physical therapy as a major, I would love your feedback.

So I just decided (today, actually) that I want to pursue PT in college and as a career. I had previously been debating between PT and Athletic Training. And as a rising senior, I've been putting together a list of colleges with PT and AT programs. I am looking at colleges in the New England area, that have a Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) available, and I'm also hoping to play college softball. I haven't found many colleges that fit my interests, but I'm hoping someone can suggest some.

A little about me: I live in Maine, I play 3 sports a year (2 varsity, 1 jv), my sports commitment limits the amount of extracurriculars I have, and I take some of the toughest classes my school offers.
GPA: 3.8 SAT: 2050 CR-680 M-660 W-710
Believe me, I know those aren't the BEST scores^(my twin sister is the valedictorian of my class :-p). But hopefully they are good enough.

My current college list:
-UVM
-Springfield College
-Quinnipiac
-BU
-Merrimack

Any suggestions regarding colleges, the major, PT as a career, etc. would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!!

I feel BU is a school on the rise.
I personally hate the campus and socialatmosphere but I will not let that taint the academic opportunities at the school.
Its a school that is constantly getting more selective, and constantly rising the rankings.
It also has many solid programs.

I dont really know anything about physical therapy programs but it seems like ur underestimating urself. I think u should add a few more competitive schools b/c im prettty sure u will easily get into all the schools on ur list.

I suggest adding Boston College. BC unlike BU has a traditional campus rather than the NYU style campus seen at BU.
BC is also way better academically.

springfield and quinnipiac have fantastic pt programs that are much MUCH competitive to get into than their regular applicant pool. that being said, i think you have a good chance.

thanks everyone!
and BC doesn't have a pt program, otherwise it would definitely be on my list :)

You're in at any of those schools. If you're happy with your list, then by all means, don't feel pressured to add more schools just for the fun of it.

To be honest, there really aren't any "reach" schools that offer PT/AT.

If you want more options though, your best bet would be to also look at schools that don't have doctorate programs. After all, you can always do undergrad one place, then go somewhere else for grad school. Some others you can look at: Northeastern, Simmons, Ithaca, Sacred Heart, Hunter College, Marist.

there technically isn't a "PT" major...some schools have pre-PT programs but its not really a major...you can actually major in whatever you want undergrad, as long as you fulfill certain class requirements to get into grad school....some majors that would be helpful are biology (i'd say 99% of schools offer this major), kinesiology, exercise science, and you could also major in AT as an undergrad and go to grad school for PT
