College Selection: Williams Amherst or Middlebury?

Hi, I'm an international looking to apply to some LACs, and I'm wondering which of the three schools that offer need-blind admissions for internationals are the best match for me.

here are my stats: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/562312-college-suggestions-international.html

Which of the three schools do I have a better chance at and if I were to try ED for Williams, do I have any chance?

Thanks in advance!

Since you are an international student, I can't exactly advise you to visit, or make a decision based on "fit."

Therefore, based on your requested criteria of good chances and need-blind FA: Middlebury, for sure.

Hmm I didn't mean to ask what school was the easiest to get into...what do you think my chances are for them? Are my chances at Williams fairly slim?

Not sure if I could make a call on which of these schools is BEST for your situation, but I can tell you one thing: Middlebury would love, love, love your passion for languages.

Sometimes it works the opposite way. All the kids who are interested in languages choose Middlebury and Williams is thrilled to get a student interested in languages.

You should only apply ED to your favorite.

Otherwise, just apply RD and compare acceptances and packages when the time comes.

Yes, I do think you have a chance at Williams.

mythmom has an excellent point, so I'm revising my estimate. I think you should try for all three, since they're all excellent schools and you're clearly a well-rounded, interesting applicant. Good luck!

Thanks for the great advices...now I'm not sure whether I would apply for ED. It might be better to compare acceptances after RD since I think I'm sort of a special case, and some schools might like me more than others.

But the reason I wanted to apply for ED at Williams is that it fills up about 40 percent of the incoming students, so acceptance is much harder for RD. I'm also guessing there will be less diversity in the ED pool, since there would be a large number of rich white american prepschool kids (is this correct?). I think most of the schools I mentioned are 'reaches' for me in regular round, except maybe middlebury. I know I sound very insecure about my chances at these schools, but that's because as an international needing aid I have a very limited selection of schools, and if I happen to get rejected by these schools during RD, I'm forced to give up American education (my parents will not support me going into a mediocre American college, and I will have to go back to my home country).

You guys seem pretty knowledgeable about these stuff...please give me some more advice. Thanks a lot.

It's a complicated decision you have to make for yourself, really. However schools will give you the same aid ED or RD.

My S was accepted RD and I know many other students who have been, but ED does maximize chances.

You seem to understand the process. This is a decision you have to make yourself in consultation with your parents.

"at Williams is that it fills up about 40 percent of the incoming students, so acceptance is much harder for RD. I'm also guessing there will be less diversity in the ED pool, since there would be a large number of rich white american prepschool kids (is this correct?)"

IMO it is not true that the rd pool is less diverse and filled with rwapk'. 50% of students get fin aid of some kind. If they only wanted rich white kids they could still fill the school 20 times over with those paying full boat. To their great credit they do not choose that path. ED does contain generally a number of the athletic tips and some legacy and some of them might be whiter and richer, but hey it is an American school in New England, Some feel ed is worth 50 sat points. You would seem to have a chance which I guess is around the acceptance rate of 17%. Since you need aid and the list is short for internationals I would pick the best bet and apply ed there, in case it does help.
