Central Board of Secondary Education (Indian) </p>

<p>P.S.- I have finally been able to convert them to the American H.S. credentials . (Thanks to Brown admissions counselor :) ) </p>

<p>Grades and Test scores </p>

<p>GPA - 3.74</p>

<p>SAT 1 - 2050 [1st sitting .. Cannot retake due to limitations(no time)]
SAT 2 - Maths II , Chem , Physics [October]</p>

<p>Extracurricular Activities</p>

<p>Grade 9 - Job at a leading IT distribution company [Official distributors of Microsoft and Intel in the UAE ] . Mostly hardware work . [Summer holidays [15 hrs per week] [650 $ per month ]</p>

<p>Participated and won in many school competitions .</p>

<p>Sky diving lessons taken and certified in Malaysia. </p>

<p>Grade 10 -The Job Continued .. Raise in Salary </p>

<p>Nothing much due to the board exams [the school does not allow grade 10 students to participate in any activities] </p>

<p>Grade 11 - The Job continued </p>

<p>Student Government - House prefect </p>

<p>School Soccer and basketball team .. and various House and school activities</p>

<p>Participated in GITEX [It is the biggest IT fair/exhibition held in the UAE .. Every1 waits for it ..Best prices] promotions </p>

<p>Grade 12 - Will be doing the Same job at a better salary in Summer [July and August]</p>

<p>GITEX promotions [I want to do it .. but parents ! .]</p>

<p>Limited school activites due to the BOARD year !! </p>

<p>Recommendations - Excellent - <em>The whole I havent seen such dedication in my entire career</em> thing! </p>

<p>Essays - Hopefully will be good .. Thanks to CC members .. because u will have to read them and give suggestions .. and my English and guidance counselor ! </p>

<p>Hooks - I don't know what this means .. but I am not applying for financial aid .. and I really want to apply to Brown University ED .. Its my Dream University </p>

<p>Major - I am planning to double major in Mechanical engineering and IR/Economics [ I need your suggestions on the commerce degree ]</p>

<p>Please Recommend colleges/Universities based on the above Info </p>

<p>Reach Schools: MIT, Stanford, UC-Berkeley, Caltech, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, Harvey Mudd, Cooper Union, Franklin W. Olin College Of Engineering</p>

<p>Match Schools: Georgia Tech, Illinois, Michigan, Rose-Hulman, Cal Poly-SLO, Bucknell, Villanova</p>

<p>Safety Schools: Purdue</p>

<p>I have visited brown … and just fell in love with the campus … the teachers seem to be very nice (helpful) … not the grumpy types … The students weren’t the competitive types ! … </p>

<p>And a few students told me that the have a good engineering and commerce degree. </p>

<p>So are any of the engineering schools sugested by pierre0913 like brown . </p>

<p>According to my research … i may be wrong … the average salary of brown engineer is same/more than that of a UCB engineer . </p>

<p>I like brown … is there any match for me … ( according to my stats) for a college like Brown . </p>

<p>However, Brown is not known as a “top” engineering school</p>

<p>CC Members - I like Brown – i love the campus … i like the dorm rooms ! … the laid back atmosphere … the friendly people … helpful professors {who really want their students to do well … stated by my friend} …
Since it is not that good for engineering … Are there “good” engineering universities like brown … please state a few safeties ( not Purdue … i did not like it … even though a good engineering uni) according to myy stats and requirements … and matches … </p>

<p>P.S. - I don’t want it to be laid back academically ( to an extent … but then I want quality education)</p>

<p>State Universitys focus more on GPA than SAT. 3.74 in your HS is considered good enough? If so, I would put UCLA and Michigan to high match or low reach.</p>

<p>a few suggestions:</p>

<p>replace Drexel with Purdue as your safety school</p>

<p>replace Olin with Carnegie Mellon because Olin only has engineering majors, should you decide not to do engineering, you would be screwed at Olin but there are many majors at Carnegie Mellon</p>

<p>replace UCLA with Georgia Tech since it has a better engineering reputation</p>

<p>other than that, it looks like a good list</p>
