College Selection

For the record, double-majoring with engineering is almost impossible unless you want to go five years. Engineering requirements are strict and many. If you attend a university that has distributive requirements (Brown doesn’t, as I’m sure you know, but most top schools do), then you may not have enough slots left to fully double major. A minor may be a possibility. Princeton offers “certificates” in sub-areas, which are the equivalent of minors. You may be able to find some integrated programs, such as the one I pointed out at Lehigh, that will match your interests, but you’ll have to do the research.

Have you looked at Bucknell?

You might also want to look at Penn State.

Here is my final List :-

1)Princeton
2)Cornell
3)Brown
4)UC - Berkley
5)UMichigan
6)UIUC
7)Ga Tech
8)Lehigh
9)UT - Austin
10)UMN - Twin cities
11)Drexel
12)Cal Poly SLO
13)Northeastern

That’s about it … please comment on this and preferably edit it according to …

You might be the only person who is applying to Brown and Drexel but somehow not Penn…it’s certainly more Brown-esque than Drexel in every way, and the engineering program is roughly on par with Drexel’s and superior to Brown’s.

Have you considered Virginia Tech? It may be more of a safety for you, but the campus is gorgeous, students and professors are laid back, the price is right, the town is extremely student-friendly, it’s got the engineering plus many other majors to choose from, etc - it pretty much fits in with your list. And double-majoring with engineering can be difficult to do in 4 years but it is possible with good planning - it really depends on how many overlapping course requirements there are.

take Drexel or Lehigh off your list and replace with Texas A&M or Virginia Tech

Ok here it goes … I have done a bit more of Research and have spoken to various counselors and have taken in to consideration the Advice of my fellow CCer’s

Here is my Final list …

1)Cornell - the only ivy i am applying to
2)UMichigan
3)Stanford
4)UC - Berkley
5)Ga Tech
6)UIUC
7)Its a tie b/w Penn state - UP and Texas A&M - I need ur opinion
8)Virginia Tech
9)Duke

The cost of Sending applications is so much … So i have reduced the no.

OK i have a Serious college War question - Purdue Vs University of Toronto
Purdue vs Waterloo
UMichigan vs UofT and Waterloo
UIUC vs " "
Drexel vs " "

On the basis of my huge requirements … International reputation and stuff

Are there any free to apply - Excellent engineering programs university … tht i can use for my - reach , Safety or Match

looks good, instead of Duke why not apply to Carnegie Mellon or University of Wisconsin?

as for Penn State vs. Texas A&M you can’t go wrong with either school. I personally like Texas A&M but they are on the same level for engineering.

If you replace Duke with Wisconsin on your list and decide between Texas A&M and Penn State, you will have the perfect list!

They are apples and oranges. Drexel and Waterloo both specialize in coops, for which Waterloo has a vastly superior reputation. Purdue and Waterloo are both amazing engineering schools. Toronto is usually considered one of the world’s top colleges but quite frankly doesn’t have the same reputation here in AK as UBC or Waterloo.

^ If there is genuine need, you might get the cost of applications waived at some schools.

I think Colorado School of Mines will let you apply for free online.
