College Shopping: What to Buy After Moving-In

I know that a lot of people everything off of their shopping list before they arrive on campus, but personally I think you should hold off on buying a few items until you move-in.*

The list includes:*
Large storage
Furniture
Some room decorations

The way I see it is that you might think it'll fit in your dorm, but there is always a good chance it might not. I'd hold off in buying these items after moving in and deciding if they are going to fit and are worth buying.*

Although I will add that buying some storage is okay, especially under bed and closet.*

Would anyone add to the list?

This isn’t really related to buying, but don’t bring your entire life with you. Bring what you think you’ll truly need in the next month. You can go home and get other stuff, or your parents can ship it to you.

Bring everything that you need before you get there and once you get there buy the things that run out.

I would hold off on buying storage solutions until you move in. That way, you have the best idea of what’s going to fit and where. Pictures and descriptions can only go so far.

Depends on how much you are going to spend in your dorm. People bring in tvs, mini-fridges, gaming systems, etc. Depending on how much you will bring, storage containers and hanging shelves will be most of what you will need. You can buy snacks and extra things if you really need them after a period of time. A mini-fridge might be something you will definitely need for food storage. College life can be a wonderful thing but don’t go overboard ;)
