Currently I'm trying to put together a short list of colleges that I want to apply to & I am having a hard time. Right now my heart is set on going into a graphic design major therefore I am looking into art colleges. I have two locations in mind for college, New York and California. While I know it may not be the best idea to choose a college based on location, I think both of those states have loads of opportunity. Although that may be false, as I'm only a teen writing based on hours of reading online. Regardless I'd like to see if anyone out there has comments or suggestions for great schools with graphic design majors.

Here are some colleges I've looked into:

Parsons
FIT
School of Visual Arts
Laguna College of Art and Design
Savannah College of Art & Design

SVA seemed to have a good graphic arts program, but graphic arts wasn’t something that my kid was really interested in. We did visit Parsons, SVA, and LCAD. LCAD is a tiny, tiny school. My kid was worried that it was so tiny that everybody would know everyone else’s business and there was no on campus housing (though they’ve just opened a small building with campus housing). The drawback for SVA was that it was pretty difficult to change majors and the kid wasn’t certain about what aspect of art she wanted to pursue. She also wasn’t enamored of living in the middle of NYC – where there wasn’t a physical ‘campus’ kind of feeling.
You might check into Pratt – I don’t know what your stats or money situation is. There are some other schools in CA – the one in Pasadena, for instance (also no on campus housing).

good luck
