College Showers

My friend told me today that college showers doesn't have those sliding covers. Is this true? So does that mean I'll have to shower naked? I'm just not comfortable with that idea...

What about UCLA?

I know right.who showers naked? i go in there with no less then a scuba suit.

I wouldn't even shower naked with my dad or my friends, much less with complete strangers.

So can someone answer my questions? Was my friend correct? Or...

It varies by college, but I highly doubt they're going to force you to shower with other people with no coverage/privacy.

Wait do you mean that college showers are like those locker room showers at gyms? If that's what you mean, then I don't think you have much to worry about, because I don't think this is the case, especially in a coed dorm.

Yeah, I was thinking about those gym lockers where you bathe openly.

So what about your schools? Are they open or do they have coverings?

^^ this is an excellent reason to visit the campus(es) on your list and check out the bathrooms firsthand.

Like prision showers? Do colleges really have those? That would be a huge deal breaker for me

you're a freshman? why are you worried about this now, lol.

Mine had sliding covers. I have never heard of ones without curtains.

as far as college showers go, keep in mind the following:

-most of the time, shower curtains cost extra(be sure to bring one with you). could try a make-shift one w/ extra towels.
-sometimes(depending on where you room) hot water can cost extra. be sure to check with your residence manager about this.
-most people I know walk to the shower from their room naked(it would just be weird not to)
-the guys at my hall share shower products frequently(soap, body wash, shampoo)
-many times the shower floor is sticky from the last shower-goer. dont worry, though-its probably just rinsed soap/shampoo.

alipes07- Ok, people may strut down the halls nekkid, but you certainly don't have to. Most people use robes or towels.

I've never heard of a college where there isn't some barrier between people showering, be it curtains or walls.

woosh... .

hahahahah @ tomato king's 1st comment!!!!!

and.... i've showered in many of my friends' dorms up and down california and no WAY have i seen anything like what the OP is describing (like lack of doors). you guys are nuts.

Don't drop the soap, fresh meat.

you guys shower alone?! That's ridiculous! you mean, people don't watch you and film the whole thing all the time? I DON'T BELIEVE YOU.

be responsible. conserve water. Shower with a friend.

At UCLA about half of us have private bathrooms, but if you're the other half in a residence hall with a communal bathroom, there ARE sliding doors and lots of private space. if you're really concerned you can shower in a bathing suit too

I've never heard of any college shower that didn't have at least curtains (that's what mine has).

If you didn't notice.... alipe's post was a joke.

I've also never heard of a college without curtains on their showers. Most even have two curtains areas- one to shower in and one to change in, but some colleges don't have those (so you might have to briefly be naked in front of people, but it's usually avoidable).

If you're already going to a college, ask current students. If you still need to apply, make sure you take note of this stuff in your visits.
