<p>My S received a letter today saying he was "not among the scholarship recipients to date," which I took to mean the corporate scholarship and the $2500 one-time scholarship. The letter went on to say college-sponsored awards will come next. We were counting on the $2000 per year from the college and the award letter says "Exp. National Merit Scholarship." Does anyone know whether he would have received that already from NMSC or is this par for the course and can still receive it later as the letter says?</p>
<p>My son received that same letter also. So I checked the financial account at his accepted college and the NMSF scholarship was listed there. After that I called the college directly and they confirmed. I called NMSF too and they told me more letters would becoming out at the end of the month once colleges confirmed the awards.</p>
<p>Actually, I think you can disregard my post at least regarding our situation. I found out the school plans on him getting it and the schools don’t get notified until end of May. Parenthetically, it does reduce the need based aid. In our case we were lucky; since the need based aid offered was somewhat higher than we thought it was going to be, it wasn’t as much of a disappointment.</p>
