College Stereotypes.

Hi. As a would-be international applicant, I am broadly unfamiliar with the various stereotypes of most of the US colleges. Partially because of this, I'm finding it difficult to differetiate between them (they all say very much the same things!). I'm particularly interested in the more competitive end of the spectrum.

For example, Chicago as "where fun comes to die", or Princeton as "preppy".

Any thoughts?

1stly, I question using stereotypes to make judgements about schools, since they aren't always true. Try The Princeton Review's Best 366 Colleges, they have a really good breakdown of schools based on what the students themselves say. Or you could look for the school's next online chat time

I would recommend the Princeton Review as well; if you are willing to pay for a $40 subscription, the "College P r o w l e r" (remove spaces - I have to write it like this because this forum otherwise blocks the name) college guide is very helpful as well.

there's always truth in stereotypes though, as you would probably find out the hard way.

You could check out u n i g o, though it lags like an amputated turtle.
