College Student Insurance

Several people on other threads are suggesting this insurance to cover laptops, musical instruments, cameras, etc. Has anyone had an experience in filing a claim with this company (or others?) Are they reputable?

It's interesting that they even cover spills on laptops!

CSI is backed by Fireman's Fund which is definitely a reputable insurance company. I've never actually made a claim, so I can't say much beyond that -- and I don't know what the competition is. I simply went with CSI because I was asking the same question as you... so I tend to look to see if there is a big name behind the policy and if so, feel that it should be o.k.

In a post last year, I mentioned making claim for S's bike. It took time to get police report, but the insurance paid replacement value. Definitely good company

Just beginning my research on which company to go with, but so far have noticed a difference in the fine print: one company will only cover losses from a parked car IF that car is locked & in a gated/attended parking lot. Other company covers if car is just locked.

Still searching for company that covers 'lost' losses!

As noted by others, the difference between my homeowner's insurance and these 'college rental insurance for personal property' policies is the deductible amount. And if you buy a rider which eliminates the deductible provision (similar to a jewelry rider) while the rates are similar, my insurance company said basically that only one loss is covered. Accidental damage IS covered.
